Gabija Pukstas Wins In West Texas

Central Oklahoma Freshman Won 1,500-meter Run In Outdoor Debut

CANYON, Texas – Central Oklahoma freshman Gabija Pukstas won the 1,500 Saturday at the West Texas Relays to highlight the meet for the Bronchos.

UCO made its Outdoor Season debut this weekend at WT and the freshman from Stillwater earned her first career victory in the 1,500-meter run. She clocked a 4:56.70, not only winning her section but finishing with the best time of the day.

Asia Williams, Maya Winterburn, Ariane Williams, and Kylee Smith joined Pukstas in the 1,500m. Asia Williams finished eighth (5:18), Winterburn 11th (5:26), Ariane Williams 13th (5:31) and Smith 18th (6:11).

Abigail Kelly represented UCO in the shot put and finished fourth with a throw of 11.91 meters.

Tyana Hymes was UCO's lone competitor in the 100-meter hurdles and finished seventh in 15.52 seconds. Hymes also competed in the 400m and finished 10th (1:01.12) with teammate Maya Conrad (1:01.72) right behind her.

McKenna Huston and Amiya Hill ran in the 800m and Huston finished second (2:22) while Hill was fifth (2:34). Marley Battles competed in the 100m and finished 10th (13.22).

In the 200m, Conrad finished 14th (27.00), Lauryn Thaggard 15th (27.09), Battles 16th (27.54), and Jaelynne Knighton 18th (27.88).

This weekend marked the first Outdoor meet of the season and the first of five straight weeks of competition for the Bronchos. UCO will be in Shawnee, Oklahoma next weekend for the OBU Invitational.
