UCO Sets Pair Of Records At MIAA Indoor Championships

Bronchos Get Team Points In Three Events

PITTSBURG, Kan. – Central Oklahoma wrapped up Indoor Season this weekend with an 11th-place finish in the MIAA Championships at Pittsburg State's Robert Plaster Center.
 
MaKenna Huston finished seventh in the 600-yard race, Gabija Pukstas took eighth in the mile, and the Bronchos got another seventh-place finish in the Distance Medley Relay.
 
Huston broke the UCO school record in the 600 on Saturday during the preliminaries when she finished eighth with a time of 1:24.92 to get the final spot in Sunday's finals. She clocked a 1:25.22 for a seventh-place finish in the final and two team points. Both marks were better than the previous record of 1:25.53 set last season.
 
Pukstas also broke a UCO school record on Saturday in the 800 meters with a time of 2:17.30, which earned her a 10th place finish at the championships. She competed in the Mile on Sunday and finished eighth (5:06.58) to score the Bronchos another team point.
 
Central Oklahoma got its other two team points from the Distance Medley Relay team on Saturday night. Asia Williams, Maya Conrad, Amiya Hill, and Pukstas completed the race in 12:59.95 to finish seventh. Another UCO relay team earned a top 10 and just missed scoring team points. The 4x400 squad of Huston, Hill, Conrad, and Deriayah Lee finished in 3:58.82.
 
Lee finished 10th in a pair of races on Saturday. The junior clocked an 8.98 in the 60-meter hurdles and a personal-best 58.37 in the 400m. Hill joined Pukstas in the 800 on Saturday and finished 15th with a time of 2:25.86. Reta Ojene competed in the 200 and finished 17th with a time of 27.33 seconds.
 
In the 3,000 meters, Pukstas led the way finishing 21st (10:31.23). Lily Melton (10:48.45), Asia  Williams (11:16.63), and Ariane Williams (11:25.56) also competed. Ariane  Williams also competed in the 5,000 and finished 26th (19:57.42) while Kylee Smith was 27th (21:23.28).
 
Central Oklahoma will take a couple of weeks off before competing in Outdoor Season. The Bronchos open the year in Canyon, Texas at the West Texas A&M Relays March 20-21.
