Women's Golf Opens Season In Texas

Bronchos Play Two-Day, 54-Hole DBU Classic At Oakmont

CORINTH, Texas – Central Oklahoma women's golf begins its 2025-26 season Monday with the DBU Classic at Oakmont Country Club.

Dallas Baptist, which won the 2024-25 Division national championship, hosts the two-day 36-hole event on Oakmont's 6,100-yard Par 70 course.

"We are excited to get the new year started," UCO head women's golf coach Michael Bond said. "Our lineup has a good mix of returners and one newcomer, so we're looking forward to seeing how we play. It's obviously a tough field and we'll see where we stand against some really good teams."

Bond enters his 18th season leading Central Oklahoma and the four-time MIAA champion with 32 career victories returns five letter winners from last year's squad and has three newcomers competing for a spot in the lineup. This week UCO takes five to Dallas to compete.

True freshman Grace Hall will lead the lineup following a few weeks of qualifying in Edmond. Sophomore Layne Ailshie and juniors MaKaylee Cowan, Estela Castillo, and Scarlet Sturch also made the lineup for the season debut.

Hall will make her collegiate debut this week in Dallas. The Texan led Lake Travis to a third-place finish in Class 6A last spring and she shot a 75-76 – 151 to help her squad.

Ailshie made her debut a year ago in the DBU Classic, held at Robson Ranch. The Fort Gibson, Oklahoma native played in seven events for the Bronchos during her freshman season including the MIAA Championship and the NCAA Central Region Championship. Ailshie had an 80.8 scoring average through 17 rounds of golf. Her 3-over-par 73 in the regional championship was the best score of her season.

Cowan, a junior from Yukon, Oklahoma, played in four tournaments as a freshman and nine as a sophomore. She finished last season with a 77.8 scoring average through 23 rounds of golf. Cowan also shot a 3-over 73 in the regional championship for her low round of the season.

Castillo has made the lineup in every event during her first two seasons. The La Palma, Spain native posted a 78.6 scoring average during her freshman season and lowered to 77.8 last season. Castillo shot a low round of 1-over-par 71 at the regional championship. She also shot a 2-over 73 at Missouri St. Louis's Emerald Coast Collegiate in Destin, Florida.

Sturch, a junior from Durant, Oklahoma, has played in 19 of 22 tournaments through two seasons. She recorded a 79.0 scoring average through 25 rounds last season playing in all but one tournament. Sturch opened the season with a 73 in the DBU Classic and shot a low round of 72 in Southern Nazarene's tournament at KickingBird Golf Club in Edmond.

Central Oklahoma has four tournaments on its fall schedule, including the annual Grace Shin Invitational in October. That tournament is up next Oct. 6-7 at The Golf Club of Edmond. UCO will also compete at Central Missouri's Midwest Classic and the Regional Preview in St. Joseph, Missouri in October.
