Bronchos Finish Eighth At Regionals

Season Comes To An End For UCO After Hosting NCAA Central Region Championship

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma finished eighth in the NCAA Central Region Championship that wrapped up Wednesday at KickingBird Golf.

Central Missouri won the team title, and Henderson State, Arkansas Tech, and Arkansas Fort Smith finished in the top four to advance to the national championship. UAFS also had the individual champion.

UCO finished the 54-hole event with an 887. The Bronchos had rounds of 293 and 289 Monday before taking Tuesday off due to rain. On Wednesday, Central finished with a 305.

Senior Jirasuda Khunarak was Central's high finisher at 18th place. The Thailand native shot a 217, with two rounds of 1-over par on Monday and a 5-over 75 on Wednesday. Khunarak transferred to UCO after two years at Ranger College in Texas. She played 86 rounds of golf for the Bronchos over the past three seasons. In both her junior and senior seasons, Khunarak finished the year with a 77.3 scoring average. She posted a 77.4 scoring average in her fifth year.

Estela Castillo finished her sophomore season with a 30th-place finish. She shot a 219 this week, with rounds of 73 & 71 on Monday. Like Khunarak, Castillo shot a 5-over 75 on Wednesday.

Two other sophomores in the lineup, Scarlet Sturch and MaKaylee Cowan, were two shots apart. Sturch shot a 227 (76-74-77) and Cowan a 229 (73-75-81). Freshman Layne Ailshie posted a 231 (75-79-77).

Central Oklahoma's season came to an end on Wednesday. The Bronchos finished in the top 10 six times this season, including two top five finishes.
