Men's Golf Regional Begins Thursday In Missouri

Central Oklahoma Competing In Central/Midwest Regional

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Central Oklahoma continues its postseason this weekend with the NCAA Division II Central/Midwest Regional Championships that begin Thursday at St. Joseph Country Club.

UCO, which won the MIAA regular season and tournament titles, is the top-ranked team in the Central Region and has the top three ranked individuals in the region. The Bronchos won the Central/Midwest Regional last year in Edmond. UCO also won the regional preview in St. Joseph this past fall, beating the field by 30 shots.

"We've played really well this season and we're hoping to keep it up this week," UCO head men's golf coach Derrick Thompson said. "The field is going to be tough obviously and the course is pretty tough. We have experience and we're playing well, we just need to put it together once we get started."

Central Oklahoma won six tournaments this season, finished runners-up in two more tournaments. Only once in nine tournaments this season did UCO finish outside of the top two and that tournament ended early due to weather.

Bennett Baldwin leads UCO into the regional. The senior from Stillwater has a 70.3 scoring average this season and is ranked second in the region. Baldwin was named MIAA Men's Golfer of the Year last week in leading the Bronchos to the conference title. Baldwin has finished in the top seven in each of the previous three seasons.

Jordan Wilson is ranked No. 1 in the Central Region and enters this weekend with a 70.5 scoring average. The senior from Edmond has two wins this year, one in the October and another last month. Wilson finished in the top 10 in all four fall tournaments and has once this spring when he won the FHSU Tiger Classic last month.

Nick Canales is ranked third in the region and has a 71.2 scoring average this season. The sophomore from Texas won one tournament this season and has five top 10 performances this season. Canales has finished four tournaments under par this season.

Baylor Bostick is the fifth-ranked individual in the Central Region and heads into this week's tournament with a 71.4 scoring average through 22 rounds of golf. Bostick, a sophomore from Duncan, finished in the top 10 four times, runner-up once, and last week finished third individually in the MIAA Championship.

Karsten Paciotti will be UCO's fifth in the lineup, with Dylan Henderson also in St. Joseph serving as a sub. Paciotti has a 73.0 scoring average through 26 rounds of golf this year. Henderson has a 73.1 scoring average through 25 rounds of golf.

The top four teams and top two individuals not part of those teams will advance to nationals May 19-23 in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. UCO won the Central/Midwest Regional last year before finishing third at nationals and reaching the quarterfinals of the match-play portion of the championship.
