Bronchos Lead Pitt State Tournament After 36 Holes

Rhett Hughes Leads Individual Standings Leading UCO To Top Position

PITTSBURG, Kan. – Central Oklahoma is in first place after two trips around Crestwood Country Club in Pittsburg State's Tommy Riggs Collegiate Invitational Monday.
 
UCO posted a 36-hole score 597 with rounds of 297 in the morning followed by a 300 in the afternoon at Crestwood's 6,889-yard Par 72 course. Washburn is in second place in the team standings with a 601, followed closely in third by Central Missouri at 602. Winona State (609) and host Pitt State (613) round out the top five.
 
Rhett Hughes led the Bronchos and the field. The sophomore from Edmond has a two-shot lead going into Tuesday's final round. Hughes posted back-to-back 1-over-par 73s on Monday for a 146.
 
Nick Canales is three back in fourth place after an opening-day 149. The junior from Texas shot rounds of 3-over 75 and 2-over 74 on Monday. Baylor Bostick is tied for 11th with a 151 (73-78) and Ty Hyatt is 37th with a 156 (76-80). Karsten Paciotti is also in the lineup. He rebounded from an 11-over 83 in the morning with a 3-over 75 in the afternoon round and is outside the Top 50 individually. 
 
Andrew Talburt is also in Pittsburg playing as an individual and he is one back of Canales in seventh place after 36 holes. The junior from Tulsa shot an even-par 72 and led the field after the first round before shooting a 6-over 78 in the afternoon to settle into seventh place.
 
Hughes started his day with a back-to-back pars before a double bogey on No. 6. He was 3-over after five holes of play before settling into a groove. Hughes made six straight par putts, then a birdie on No. 15, and two more pars. Although he bogeyed No. 18 to go back to 3-over, he made a par putt on No. 1 and finished his round with back-to-back birdies on No. 2 and No. 3 to get to 1-over par.
 
In the second round, he started with back-to-back birdies to make it four in a row overall, then doubled No. 6 for the second time on the day. Hughes sank birdie putts on No. 12, No. 17, and No. 2 and finished the second round with another 73.
 
Canales countered six bogeys with three birdies in the first round getting to 3-over 75. He sank 14 par putts in the second round to go with one birdie and posted the 2-over 74.
 
Bostick's first round was up and down. He had four bogeys and one double, but responded with five birdies and finished 1-over par. He had three bogeys and two doubles in the afternoon to go with one birdie and 12 par putts.
 
Talburt started his day on No. 15 and bogeyed the first hole, but he parred the next four, birdied No. 2 to get to even, then sank seven straight pars. He returned to the back nine with a second birdie on No. 10 and had three more pars to head to his final hole 1-under. Talburt bogeyed that but his even-par 72 led the field.
 
In the afternoon, Talburt had four bogeys and two doubles but chipped back into it with a pair of birdies.
 
Central Oklahoma will tee off in the third and final round Tuesday morning. UCO is looking for its fourth win of the season and first since October. The Bronchos opened the year with three wins in their first four tournaments.
