Sophomore From Edmond Finished Runner-Up In Pittsburg

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Central Oklahoma sophomore Rhett Hughes was named MIAA Men's Golf Athlete of the Week following his runner-up finish at Pittsburg State's Tommy Riggs Collegiate Invitational earlier this week at Crestwood Country Club.

Central Oklahoma won the team title – its fourth of the season – in the tournament that featured all 12 MIAA programs.

Hughes' second-place finish is a career best for the Edmond, Oklahoma native. He finished with a 4-over-par 220, posting back-to-back rounds of 1-over 73 on Monday before finishing with a 2-over 74 in Tuesday's final round.

Hughes sank 10 birdie putts on the week.

This season, Hughes has played 24 rounds over eight events and the sophomore has a 72.3 scoring average.

Central Oklahoma is back on the course next week with Washburn's Firekeeper Invitational in Mayetta, Kansas. That's the final tournament of the regular season.

The 2026 MIAA Men's Golf Championships are April 13-15 in Jefferson City, Missouri and the NCAA Regional Championships are May 7-9 in Big Rapids, Michigan. This year's national tournament will be held May 18-22 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
