Fours Punch Ticket To Grand Final, Eights Race To Repechage

Central Oklahoma Has One Boat Competing For National Championship, Seeks Second Friday Evening

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – Central Oklahoma's Varsity 4+ boat highlighted the opening races of the 2025 NCAA Division II Rowing National Championships for the Bronchos Friday morning on Lake Mercer.

UCO's fours finished first in its heat race, clocking a 7:41 on the 2,000-meter course. The finish moved the Bronchos directly into Saturday's Grand Final, where UCO will race for a national championship.

Central Oklahoma's eights got the day started and finished third in its heat. The result forces UCO to race again Friday evening for a spot in the Grand Final. Four teams qualify, with the two heat winners moving on first, and the top two boats in Friday evening's repechage race joining them. The Petite Final determines fifth and sixth place Saturday.

"We knew it was going to be tough for our eights and we did our best, now we have to come back tonight and do a little better," UCO interim head rowing coach Jimmy Francis said. "Really proud of the fours though, they raced a great race, they executed, and now they have a chance to win it on Saturday."

Central Oklahoma will be joined by Seattle Pacific, Embry Riddle, and Thomas Jefferson in the repechage Friday night. Western Washington won the first heat and Cal Poly Humboldt the second to advance to the Grand Final.

In the fours, Humboldt also won its heat to join UCO in the Grand Final. Western Washington, Seattle Pacific, Embry Riddle, and Thomas Jefferson will race again Friday evening to see which two boats join the Bronchos in the Grand Final.

Saturday's racing is scheduled to begin with the Varsity 4+ races. The Petite Final is scheduled for 11 a.m. and the Grand Final for 11:12 a.m. The Varsity 8+ Petite Final is scheduled for 11:48 a.m. and the Grand Final 12 p.m. Points awarded to each team based on finishes in each boat determines the team national champion.
