MIAA Honors Four UCO Tennis Players

Central Oklahoma Begins Postseason Friday, Four Earn All-MIAA Honors Thursday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Central Oklahoma begins postseason play Friday with the MIAA Women's Tennis Championship and the league announced its annual awards Thursday prior to first serve.
 
Pete Komada was named First Team All-MIAA Singles, Nefeli Zafeiri earned Second Team All-MIAA Singles, and Anika Ouwejan was named Honorable Mention All-MIAA Singles.
 
In Doubles awards, Zafeiri and Ouwejan were honored together as Second Team All-MIAA Doubles, while Komada and Ayaka Koga were named Honorable Mention All-MIAA Doubles.
 
UCO went 10-6 this season with a 6-3 record in the MIAA. The Bronchos earned the No. 4 seed in this week's MIAA Women's Tennis Championship and will play No. 5 seed Emporia State Friday in the opening round. The winner plays No. 1 seed Nebraska Kearney in the semifinals Saturday, with the league's championship match set for Sunday.
 
The winner of the postseason tournament receives the MIAA's automatic qualification into the NCAA Central Region Championships next week.
 
Komada posted an 11-4 record this season and has been in the national rankings all season. Komada went 6-3 at No. 1 singles and 5-1 at No. 2 singles. She had a 6-3 record in MIAA contests.
 
Zafeiri went 6-8 this season, posting a 1-5 record at No. 1 singles and a 5-3 record at No. 2 singles. She went 5-3 in league matches.
 
Ouwejan is 9-7 overall, going 1-0 at No. 2, 3-3 at No. 3, and 5-4 at No. 4 singles. Ouwejan was 6-3 in league matches.
 
Zafeiri and Ouwejan together went 5-3 in doubles play, all in MIAA contests. The duo went 5-2 at No. 1 doubles.
 
Komada and Koga were 4-3 playing together, all in MIAA matches. The duo went 0-1 at No. 1 doubles and 4-2 at No. 2 doubles.
