Bronchos Hosting NCAA Central Regional

Central Oklahoma Earns No. 2 Seed, Hosts Regional May 8-9 In Edmond

INDIANAPOLIS – Central Oklahoma is headed to the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championship in the Central Region but the Bronchos aren't traveling as it was announced Monday UCO is hosting the first and second rounds at Edmond Center Court.

The Bronchos are 18-3 on the season headed into the national tournament. UCO won the regular season and postseason tournament in the MIAA and received the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. UCO will host a three-team sub-regional May 8-9 at Edmond Center Court.

"Hosting in the postseason is very rewarding because you have to earn that right," UCO head women's tennis coach Joe Vann said. "We've worked all season to get to this point and we're looking forward to continuing our journey this weekend."

No. 3 seed Washburn will play No. 6 Arkansas Tech on Friday at 10 a.m. in the first round and the winner will meet No. 2 seed Central Oklahoma in the second round Saturday at 10 a.m. The winner of that match advances to nationals and the Round of 16 in Surprise, Arizona May 19-24.

No. 1 seed Augustana is hosting the other half of the Central Regional in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The Vikings will play the winner of No. 4 Northwest Missouri and No. 5 Missouri Western.

UCO went 8-1 in the MIAA this season and was co-champions with Washburn. Those two met in the MIAA Women's Tennis Championship final on Sunday, when the Bronchos won 4-0. Central's only loss in conference was to Missouri Western on the road in April. The Bronchos avenged that setback with a 4-2 win over MWSU in the MIAA semifinals on Saturday.

The Bronchos are 5-1 against the teams in the regional with two wins over Washburn, and one over Missouri Western, Northwest Missouri, and Arkansas Tech.

Central Oklahoma has made the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championship in 10 of the last 11 years.
