Central Oklahoma Beat Missouri Western 4-2 Saturday In MIAA Semifinals

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Central Oklahoma avenged its only conference loss of the season with a 4-2 win over Missouri Western in the MIAA Women's Tennis Championship semifinals Saturday.

The win puts UCO back in the championship match for the second year in a row. The Bronchos will face Washburn on Sunday at 10 a.m. for the title.

The Bronchos got out to a 1-0 lead with wins at No.1 & No. 3 doubles, both by a score of 6-1. Mei Hasegawa and Pete Komada won 6-1 at No. 1 and Karyna Yurchenko and Hui Soo won 6-1 at No. 3. Anika Ouwjean and Ayaka Koga were tied 3-3 at No. 2 doubles when the Bronchos clinched the point.

Yurchenko made it 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-3 singles win at the No. 4 spot. Hasegawa put the Bronchos within a point of clinching with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles. Missouri Western picked up wins at No. 5, 6-4, 6-4 over Dilay Ata, and No. 3, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 over Ouwejan.

It would be Soo at No. 6 singles to finish the job for the Bronchos. She won 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 to give UCO the 4-2 lead and the win.

UCO and Washburn were co-champions of the regular season after finishing 8-1 in the MIAA. Central beat Washburn in March in Edmond and is the No. 1 seed in the tournament because of that win.

Central Oklahoma has won the MIAA Women's Tennis Championship four times and is aiming for a fifth on Sunday. The Bronchos won their first title in 2019, two more in 2021 and 2022, and again last year in 2025.
