Anglen, Pipkin Give Bronchos Split With Central Missouri

UCO Reaches 40-win Mark With 6-1 Second-game Victory

WARRENSBURG, Missouri – Rylee Anglen picked a fine time to hit her first career home run.

In the 128th game and 286th at bat of her career, Anglen blasted a fifth-inning grand slam to power No. 5-ranked Central Oklahoma past Central Missouri 6-1 to give the Bronchos a split of Thursday's MIAA doubleheader.

The Jennies took the opener 3-2 to end UCO's 12-game hitting streak before the Bronchos rebounded behind Anglen's big hit and Jordyn Pipkin's pitching brilliance.

"That was a big win for us," said head coach Cody White, whose team is now 40-7 on the season and 17-3 in the league. "We lost a tough one in the opener and it was a battle all the way in the second game. Jordyn was tremendous for us and Rylee came through with a big-time hit when we needed it most."

Pipkin was masterful in the nightcap. The senior right-hander gave up a hit in the first inning and then proceeded to retire 16 of the next 17 batters – with a lone walk coming in the third – before giving up three hits and a run in the seventh.

It was the third complete game of the season for Pipkin, who improved to 6-0 with her 41st career in.

Brooklyn Ryan managed UCO's only one hit in the first four innings before the Bronchos finally broke the scoreless deadlock in the fifth.

Ariah Mitchell was hit by pitch to start the inning, Kya Watson drew a walk and both advanced on Macie Andrews' sacrifice bunt. Ryan walked to load the bases, then Rylee Lemos reached on an error that allowed Mitchell to score the game's first run.

Anglen followed with her big fly. A slap-hitting left-hander, the junior smacked the second pitch she saw over the center field wall to suddenly give UCO a big 5-0 cushion.

The Bronchos added a run in the seventh when Ryan led of with a triple to left field and scooted home on Lemos' RBI groundout.

That made it 6-0 and UCM's single run in the seventh wasn't nearly enough.

UCO reached the 40-win mark for the 12th time in school history, including the fourth straight and ninth time under White. The Bronchos are back in action Friday with a 4 p.m. doubleheader at Washburn.
