UCO Finishes 12th In Spring Return

Bronchos Play Two Rounds In Texas

SPRING, Texas – Central Oklahoma finished 12th Monday in its return to the course for the spring season with UCO's Southern Invite at Cypresswood Golf Club.

The Bronchos made two trips around the 5,898-yard Par 71 course Monday. Tuesday's final round was canceled due to weather.

Dallas Baptist won the team title with an 18-over-par 586 (288-298). West Texas (591), Rogers State (593), St. Mary's (593), and UT Tyler (595) rounded out the top five teams in the 15-team field.

UCO finished 36 holes with a 49-over-par 617 (306-311).

MaKaylee Cowan finished 30th in the individual standings, posting a 36-hole 152 (74-78). The sophomore sank three birdie putts in the first round Monday morning and finished 3-over-par before settling with a 7-over Monday afternoon in the second round.

Jirasuda Khunarak and Josey Cavitt both shot 11-over 153 on Monday. The senior Khunarak shot rounds of 7-over 78 and 4-over 75, while Cavitt started with a 3-over 74 before shooting finishing with an 8-over 79. Cavitt made two birdie putts in the morning and one more in the afternoon. Khunarak sank one birdie putt in each round.

Scarlet Sturch finished 36 holes with a 19-over-par 161 (80-81). The sophomore played the morning round 4-over on the front nine and 5-over on the back nine, then played the afternoon round 5-over on both the front and back nines.

Estela Castillo, also a sophomore, made a big comeback in the afternoon after a tough first round. Castillo started on No. 10 with a par but was 7-over turning back to the front nine and finished 15-over 86 in the first round. She responded with an 8-over 79 in the second round, shooting 3-over on the front nine.

Drew Faires competed Monday as an individual and finished 59th at 16-over par. The senior shot a 7-over 78 Monday morning with one birdie and came back with a 9-over 80 Monday afternoon with another birdie.

Central Oklahoma has two weeks off before returning to the course for the Diffee Ford-Lincoln Invite, hosted by Southern Nazarene at KickingBird Golf Club in Edmond.
