Central Oklahoma Hosts Missouri Southern In Week 10 Matchup

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma opens the gates of Chad Richison Stadium for the final time this season Saturday when the Bronchos host Missouri Southern in an MIAA matchup.

The game will officially kickoff at 1:05 p.m. as the MIAA Game of the Week on 38 The Spot in the Kansas City market and KOCB 34 in the Oklahoma City market, as well as everywhere on the MIAA Network. It's also both Senior Day and Military Appreciation Day sponsored by ROTC & Plexus.

"We know we need to be better than we have been in the last couple of weeks," UCO head football coach Adam Dorrel said. "We got to a point where the only thing we have left to play for is each other and that's our focus. We need to finish strong and close out the season with our best football."

Central Oklahoma is 4-5 on the season with a 4-3 record in the MIAA. The Bronchos have lost two in a row. UCO is 3-2 at home this season with the losses the most since Dorrel took over before the 2022 season. He went 5-1 in 2022, 4-1 in 2023, and 6-1 in 2024 and is 18-5 in Edmond as the head football coach at Central.

Missouri Southern comes to Edmond with a 3-6 record on the season. The Lions from Joplin, Missouri won both of their non-conference games to start the year before a four-game losing streak to open conference play. After beating Nebraska Kearney last month, MSSU like UCO has lost the last two games.

Central and Southern played for the first time ever in 2012, the year the Bronchos joined the MIAA. Missouri Southern won that game and the next one in 2013 before the Bronchos won six in a row from 2014-19. Southern won two in a row again in 2021-22 but the Bronchos have won the last two meetings to get an 8-4 advantage in the all-time series.

This season, UCO's up and down play has resulted in a scoring deficit of 11 points. The Bronchos have been outscored 258-247 through nine games.

Central Oklahoma puts up 451.4 yards of total offense per game, splitting that mark between 263.5 passing yards and 187.9 rushing yards per game. Defensively, UCO allows 377.9 total yards, 225.6 passing and 152.2 rushing yards per game.

The offense is paced by Jett Huff, who is 125-for-208 (60.1 percent) this season. He has 1,750 yards passing and 14 touchdowns. His primary target is Ashton Schumann, who has 62 receptions for 859 yards and five touchdowns. Schumann ranks fourth in yards among all Division II players and seventh in receptions.

The rushing attack has been a three-pronged attack. William Mason leads the team with 724 yards on 117 carries, 6.2 yards per rush, and he has four touchdowns this season. Jaylen Cottrell has 470 yards on 84 carries, 5.6 per rush, with five rushing touchdowns. And Dev Mathews has 60 carries for 388 yards, 5.9 per rush, with five touchdowns.

UCO's linebackers spear the defensive effort with Connor Johnson's 55 tackles and Jack Puckett's 51 tackles leading the team. Puckett has a team-high 12 tackles in the backfield while Johnson is second with 8.5 stops behind the line of scrimmage. Puckett also leads UCO with three sacks. The two combine for five QB hurries and five pass breakups, while Puckett has one interception and Johnson has one forced fumble and one blocked kick.

Defensive backs David Williams (34 tackles) and Bryant Coley (33) are in most plays. Defensive lineman Johnny Wilson (32) and linebacker Reese Roller (31) are too. Wilson has two sacks and a team-high six QB hurries. Roller has 2.5 sacks and is second on the team with five QB hurries. He also has one interception.

On special teams, Joseph Kim is now 8-for-14 on field-goal attempts this season, with a long of 51 yards. He made his first and only attempt inside of 30 yards this season last week. UCO has scored 25 touchdowns in 33 red zone appearances this season and is 4-for-6 on field-goal attempts from the red zone.

Davis Barr is averaging 38.2 yards per punt this season with a long of 62 yards in Week 0 at UT Permian Basin. Barr has 12 punts inside the 20-yard line, four of 50+yards, and four touchbacks.

Missouri Southern is averaging 20.6 points per game this season and gives up 28.5 points on average through nine games played. The Lions average 344.8 yards of total offense, 258.5 passing yards and 86.2 rushing yards per game. Defensively, MSSU gives up 402.7 yards of total offense, 219 passing yards and 183.7 rushing yards per game.

Missouri Southern quarterback Tillman Martin, a true freshman, has an MIAA-high 2,158 yards passing this season. His 239.8 passing yards per game ranks fourth in the league, one spot behind Huff's 250.0 passing yards per game.

Central Oklahoma has one game left following this Saturday's matchup with Missouri Southern and that is a road trip next Saturday to Missouri Western. The Bronchos kickoff in St. Joseph, Missouri Saturday, Nov. 15 at 2 p.m.
