Bronchos, Mules, Saturday In Edmond

Central Oklahoma Hosts Central Missouri In MIAA Matchup At Chad Richison Stadium

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma returns home in Week 5 to host Central Missouri in an MIAA matchup Saturday night in Edmond. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
 
Saturday is the annual UCO Athletics Hall of Fame Game and is also Teacher Appreciation Night. A postgame drone show will wrap up a festive night at Chad Richison Stadium.
 
The Bronchos play four games in October, including three at home at Chad Richison Stadium. UCO went 0-1 in August and 2-1 in September. UCO is 2-2 this season and 2-1 in the MIAA. The Bronchos opened the season with a loss at UT Permian Basin in non-conference play. Central put together a stellar performance to beat Pittsburg State 27-24 in Edmond in Week 1 before a bye week. After the week off, Central won another home game, topping Washburn 34-28 in Edmond. Last week, UCO fell short at Northwest Missouri, 38-16.
 
Central Missouri is also 2-2 on the season and 2-0 in the MIAA. The Mules of Warrensburg, Missouri lost at Delta State in Week 0 and lost at home to Colorado State Pueblo after an early bye week. UCM has beaten Missouri Western and Missouri Southern in league play over the last two weeks.
 
Central Missouri owns an 8-4 record in the series that only began when the Bronchos joined the MIAA in 2012. Central Oklahoma won in back-to-back years in 2017-18 and has won back-to-back home games in 2022 & 2024. Last season, UCO upset No. 2 UCM 57-40 in Edmond.
 
Central Oklahoma head football coach Adam Dorrel owns a 119-54 career record and is 24-15 in his fourth season leading the Bronchos. Dorrel has won 90 career games as a coach in the MIAA, which ranks ninth on the league's all-time list. Josh Lamberson leads UCM for the fourth season and is 26-14.
 
Central Oklahoma is officially out of the national rankings after its loss at Northwest Missouri in Week 4. The Bronchos dropped from No. 15 in the coaches' poll and No. 8 in the media poll. UCO is receiving the most votes of a team not ranked, leaving the Bronchos essentially in the No. 26 spot.
 
UCO is averaging 22.7 points per game through four games this season and 401.0 yards of total offense. The Bronchos split that production 194.3 rushing yards per game and 206.7 passing yards per game. Central has 11 total touchdowns this season, with eight coming on the ground.
 
The Central Oklahoma defense is allowing 31.0 points per game this season and the Bronchos allow a total of 366.8 yards of total offense per contest. Opponents average 223.5 yards passing per game and 143.3 yards rushing per outing. UCO has allowed 15 total touchdowns through four games, with eight rushing and seven passing scores made against the Bronchos.
 
William Mason leads UCO's rushing attack with 294 yards through four games. The junior has three touchdowns and is averaging 6.8 yards per rush. Jaylen Cottrell, who missed Week 4 at Northwest, has 258 yards rushing through three games played. He also has three rushing touchdowns and is averaging 7.4 yards per carry. Dev Matthews has 132 yards and one touchdown in four games. He had a 78-yard rush called back on a penalty last week.
 
Clayton Creasey is orchestrating the offense after starting quarterback and All-American Jett Huff was injured in Week 1 against Pitt State. Creasey is 53-for-89 for 614 yards and two touchdowns in four games this season. He appeared in the Week 0 game at UTPB but did not throw a pass. Creasey also has 88 rushing yards on 22 carries, with a 22-yard touchdown run and a 41-yard rush.
 
Ashton Schumann leads the receivers with 24 receptions through four games played. The sophomore has 256 yards receiving but has not found the end zone yet this season. Schumann hauled in 10 receptions for 104 yards against Washburn and has had at least three receptions in each game this season.
 
A total of 16 players have caught a pass this season for Central Oklahoma. Cottrell has eight receptions out of the backfield for 77 yards. Javohn Thomas has six catches for 111 yards, Hagen Hacker has five for 99 and one touchdown. Mason has five for 49 and one touchdown.
 
Connor Johnson and Jack Puckett lead the UCO defense from their linebacker positions. Johnson has a team-high 25 tackles, including two in the backfield and one sack. He's also broken up two passes, is credited with one QB hurry, and has a blocked field goal attempt. Puckett has 18 tackles and did not play in the Pittsburg State game. He has four stops in the backfield and also has two pass breakups this season.
 
Johnny Wilson is third on the team with 17 tackles this season, has a team-high four in the backfield with Puckett, and has one sack as well. He is credited with three QB hurries in four games. Braden Waters and Abner Dubar are also among the team leaders in tackles from their safety positions. Waters has 16 tackles and one breakup. Dubar has 15 tackles this season.
 
Marcus Works has a team-high four pass breakups through four games. Willie Rice and Wesley Hudson both have three, and Johnson and Puckett have two each. UCO has 17 total as a team. Antwan Gilbreath has Central's only interception through four games played.
 
UCO specialist Joseph Kim is 5-for-9 on field goal attempts in four games, including tying the Central Oklahoma record with a 51-yard field goal against Washburn. Kim is 3-4 from 30-39 yards and 1-2 on 50+ attempts. He also averages 63.9 yards per kickoff with seven touchbacks on 18 kicks. Davis Barr handles punting duties and is averaging 39.9 yards per punt on 20 attempts. Barr has four inside the 20-yard line and three 50+ punts with a long of 62.
 
Central Oklahoma has three home games in October. After a trip to Fort Hays State next week, UCO will host Emporia State and Northeastern State in Edmond over the final two Saturdays in October.
