Bronchos Finish 13th In Season Opening Tournament

DENTON, Texas – Central Oklahoma wrapped up its season opening tournament Tuesday with a 13th-place finish at the DBU Classic.
 
After three trips around Wildhorse Golf Club at Robson Ranch, Central Oklahoma posted a 54-hole score of 928 (311-310-307). Dallas Baptist won its home event with a staggering 22-under-par 842. UT Tyler was second with an 864 while St. Mary's (868), Flagler College (869) and Saint Leo (875) rounded out the top five in the team standings.
 
Jirasuda Khunarak led Central Oklahoma throughout the week and finished 48th individually with a 12-over-par 228. The fifth-year senior from Thailand shot rounds of 2-over 74, 6-over 78, and 4-over 76 for the week. She had the low score for the Bronchos in both the first and third rounds.
 
Estela Castillo finished 55th individually with a 15-over-par 231. The sophomore from Spain shot a 9-over 81 on Sunday, then had the lowest score on the team with a 2-over 74 on Monday. She finished the tournament with a 4-over 76 on Tuesday.
 
Scarlet Sturch, a sophomore from Durant, Oklahoma, finished 62nd individually. She started the tournament with a stout 3-over 75 before firing 78 and 81 over the next two rounds. Sturch settled with a 54-hole score of 234.
 
MaKaylee Cowan improved her score each day on the week. The sophomore from Yukon, Oklahoma finished 65th with a score of 236. She posted a 9-over 81 on Sunday, and 8-over 80 on Monday, and then finished with a 3-over-par 75 on Tuesday.
 
Layne Ailshie, a freshman from Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, also improved her score with each round this week. Making her collegiate debut, Ailshie finished 69th with a score of 247. She posted a 13-over 85 on Sunday, a 10-over 82 on Monday, and then an 8-over 80 on Tuesday.
 
Central Oklahoma has four tournaments on the schedule for the fall portion of its 2024-25 slate. The Bronchos will go to Kearney, Nebraska next week for the MIAA Preview at Meadowlark Hills – the sight of the league championship in the Spring. UCO will also host the Grace Shin Invitational Oct. 7-8 at KickingBird Golf Club. The annual event is serving as the Regional Preview this fall with Central Oklahoma hosting the NCAA Division II Central Region Championship there in 2025. UCO wraps up the fall schedule with the Midwest Classic, hosted by Northwest Missouri at Mozingo Lake Golf Course in Maryville, Missouri Oct. 14-15.
