UCO Finishes Seventh In Springfield

Bronchos Led By Jirasuda Khunarak, Wrap Up Regular Season

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Central Oklahoma finished seventh at the Arkansas Tech Spring Preview Tuesday at Rivercut Golf Club.
 
The Bronchos posted a 54-hole 933 (312-313-308). Henderson State won the team title with a 5-over-par 884. Arkansas Tech finished runners-up in its own event, shooting a 902. Central Missouri (909), Southwestern Oklahoma State (910), and Rogers State (922) rounded out the top five.
 
Jirasuda Khunarak led the Bronchos this week, firing an 11-over-par 227 over three trips around Rivercut's 5,885-yard Par 72 course. Khunarak shot back-to-back 5-over-par 77s on Monday before posting a 1-over 73 to wrap up the tournament on Tuesday tied for 12th place individually.
 
Khunarak was 2-over-par making the turn, and only because of a double bogey on No. 9. Then the senior from Thailand made a push. She made three straight par putts before a sinking a birdie on the Par 4 14th. Khunarak followed with four straight pars from there, playing the back nine 1-under-par to close out the tourney.

Mika Ramos finished tied for 35th. The senior shot an 18-over-par 234. Ramos shot rounds of 7-over 79, 4-over 76, and another 7-over 79 on Tuesday.
 
Freshman Scarlet Sturch was third for UCO this week. She posted a 54-hole 20-over-par 236 to tie for 41st individually. Sturch shot 78-79 on Monday and came back with another 7-over 79 on Tuesday.
 
Emma Shelley rounded out UCO's counting scores with a 24-over-par 240. Shelley, who became the sixth golfer in school history to play 100 career rounds at Central, shot 79-81 on Monday, and with her 101st round Tuesday, posted a 9-over-par 80 to conclude the event.
 
Estela Castillo was also in the lineup for the Bronchos. The freshman finished tied for 62nd with a 242 (78-87-77).
 
Central Oklahoma wrapped up the 2023-24 regular season with this week's tournament. The Bronchos will take a week off before heading to Bolivar, Missouri for the 2024 MIAA Women's Golf Championships at Silo Ridge. UCO is also aiming to clinch a spot in the 2024 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Central Regional Championships next month in Bartlesville.
