UCO In Springfield For Arkansas Tech Event

Bronchos Playing 54 Holes At Rivercut Golf Course Monday & Tuesday

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Central Oklahoma is set to play its final regular season tournament this week as the Bronchos are one of 18 squads competing in Arkansas Tech's Spring Preview at Rivercut Colf Course Monday and Tuesday.

UCO sends a five-person lineup consisting of Estela Castillo, Jirasuda Khunarak, Emma Shelley, Scarlet Sturch, and Mika Ramos, for three trips around the 5,885-yard Par 72 course. All five will tee off at 8 a.m. Monday for the first of two rounds. The third and final round is scheduled for Tuesday morning.

Castillo enters this week's tournament with a 78.3 scoring average through 20 rounds of golf. She lowered that average last week with a 54-hole 231 (75-78-79). In Destin, Florida, the freshman from Spain tied for 42nd in last week's tournament.

Khunarak has a 77.3 scoring average this season. She's also played in all 20 rounds for the Bronchos. The senior from Thailand finished 49th two week's ago in Florida with rounds of 78-81-75 for a 54-hole 234.

Shelley, a fifth-year senior from Bartlesville, Oklahoma, currently ranks seventh on UCO's all-time list for most career rounds played. She's played in all 20 this season and 98 in her career with the Bronchos. Shelley has a 77.9 scoring average this season and is set to become just the sixth player ever to play 100 rounds of golf at Central. She also ranks in the Top 10 in school history for career scoring average (78.1).

Sturch, another freshman in the lineup, is averaging a 78.5 this season through 14 rounds of golf. The Durant native finished 21st with a 17-over-par showing in Edmond last month, and she also finished 14th with a 17-over in Oklahoma City two weeks ago.

Ramos, who like Shelley is among the all-time leader in rounds played, is third on the team this season with a 78.0 scoring average. She's played in all 20 rounds this season 85 career rounds with the Bronchos in four seasons of golf, including a school record 31 last season. Her career 78.8 scoring average is also among the best in program history.

The 2024 MIAA Women's Golf Championships are scheduled for April 22-24 at Silo Ridge Country Club in Bolivar, Missouri. The winner receives and automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Central Region Championships May 6-8 at Hillcrest Country Club in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Three automatic bids and six more at-large bids make up the nine-team regional field. UCO is eighth in the latest regional rankings, announced last week.
