Bronchos In Fourth At MIAA Championships After One Round

UCO Led By Mika Ramos and Estela Castillo, Who Are Tied For Sixth Individually

BOLIVAR, Mo. – Central Oklahoma is in fourth place after the first round of the 2024 MIAA Women's Golf Championships at Silo Ridge Golf Club.
 
The Bronchos posted an opening round 314. Northeastern State leads the 10-team field after an opening round 303. Rogers State (307) and Central Missouri (309) are in front of UCO. Missouri Southern (315) rounds out the top five behind the Bronchos.
 
UCO was led by senior Mika Ramos and freshman Estela Castillo, who both posted 5-over-par 77s on Monday. They are tied for sixth in the individual standings.
 
Ines Diaz (Northeastern State) and Hayley Jones (Central Missouri) lead the field after both shot even-par 72s on Monday.
 
Jirasuda Khunarak and Emma Shelley posted UCO's other counting scores. Both seniors shot 8-over-par 80s on Monday. Scarlet Sturch is also in the lineup and was 9-over 81 after one round.
 
Ramos started her day with a par but was 3-over after four holes. Then she sank her lone birdie of the round on the par-3 fifth and settled in with four straight par putts to close out the front nine 2-over-par. Ramos had seven par putts on the back nine with a double on 12 and a bogey on 14.
 
Castillo was 4-over at the turn. She sank five par putts on four bogeys on the front nine. After alternating par-bogey on the first six holes on the back nine, Castillo sank back-to-back birdie putts on 16 & 17 before a par on 18 wrapped up the day. She was 1-over on the back nine.
 
Khunarak started strong, and along with Ramos and Sturch, played the front nine 2-over-par. Khunarak sank seven par putts and bogeyed 3 & 6. On the back nine, she sank her lone birdie of the day on the par-3 11th, but bogeyed all but that hole and No. 18 in finishing the back nine 6-over-par.
 
Shelley started the day with a 5-over 41 on the front nine, sinking four par putts. She made four more par putts on the back nine, as well as a birdie on the par-3 17th, in playing the back 3-over-par.
 
Sturch had three bogeys but offset one of them with a birdie on the par-5 sixth before finishing the front nine 2-over-par. She had three pars on the back nine, five bogeys, and doubled 16 to finish 7-over on the back and 9-over on the day.
 
Central Oklahoma continues with the second round Tuesday morning. The 2024 MIAA Women's Golf Champions will be crowned following Wednesday's final round.
