Bronchos Finish Sixth In League Tourney

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Jordan Wilson fired an even-par 71 to finish among the top individuals in leading Central Oklahoma on the final day of the MIAA Men's Golf Championships Wednesday.

The Bronchos knocked 17 shots off their second-round score in closing with a 292, finishing with a 909 total that left them tied for sixth in the team standings. Missouri Southern won the team title at 887, followed by Central Missouri (892) and Northeastern State (897).

Wilson ended up fifth in the individual standings with a 221 total and Baylor Bostick carded a final-round 72. Bennett Baldwin tied for 14th at 226 after closing with a 74, while Dylan Henderson shot 75 and Nick Canales 77.

"I was proud of the way the guys finished the tournament today," head coach Derrick Thompson said. "We were out of it, but they battled today and that was good to see. We just didn't play very well the first two days and that put us in a bind.

"We're better than what we showed in this tournament. I know our guys are anxious to get back to work and we're looking forward to the regional."

UCO will have three weeks to prepare for the NCAA Division II Central/Midwest Super Regional Tournament, which is set for May 9-11 at KickingBird Golf Course in Edmond.

Wilson got off to a great start in the final round, birdieing the par-4 first and par-4 fourth holes. The junior transfer bogeyed No. 7 in making the turn at one-under 35, then ripped off six straight pars.

Another birdie on the par-4 16th got Wilson back to two-under, but bogeys on the final two holes dropped him back to even for the day.

Bostick offset a bogey on No. 6 with birdies on the par-4 second and par-5 seventh in making the turn at one-under 35. The freshman opened the back nine with six consecutive pars to stay there before bogeying Nos. 16 and 18 in coming in with his 72.
