Bronchos Sending 16 Student-Athletes To Shawnee For Final Outdoor Meet

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Central Oklahoma is scheduled to compete in the Ford Mastin Twilight at Oklahoma Baptist. The meet originally scheduled for Saturday has been moved up to Thursday due to weather.

Field events get the day started at 2 p.m.

Central Oklahoma is sending 16 student-athletes to Shawnee for the day with a dozen tracksters and six more field athletes set to compete.

Talyn Been and Mattison Thetford will compete in the pole vault. Kelsey Drapeau will compete in the long jump. Abigail Kelly, Dahsauni Lyday, and Lauren Wilson will all compete in throws.

Deriayah Lee heads to OBU as Central's lone hurdler and will compete in both the 100- and 400-meter hurdles.

Karly Clemons, Drapeau, and Mikayla Stephenson will each run in the 100-meter dash. Sai Brookins-Fleming, Clemons, Kerrigan Huynh, Reta Ojene, Stephenson, and Treasure Vallerie will each compete in the 200. Brookins-Fleming, Huynh, and Vallerie are entered for the 400.

Genevieve Young will also run in the 800, and Noel Buckhaults and Kylee Smith will both enter the 1,500.

Brookins-Fleming owns Central Oklahoma's top times in both the 100- and 200-meter dash this season. The freshman has an 11.93-second 100, just 0.10 seconds off a school record, and a 24.96-second 200, just 0.71 off the school record.

Vallerie's 55.89 in the 400-meters is a team-best this season. The freshman from San Antonio, who earned All-American honors during Indoor season, is 0.83 off setting a fourth school record during her rookie season.

Thetford has led the way in the pole vault, hitting a new personal record 3.65 meters last week at OU. The sophomore made three attempts a 3.80 meters, which would have tied a school record, but did not hit the mark.

Lyday has set a new school record already this Outdoor season. The senior thrower from Wagoner, Oklahoma, who is an All-MIAA performer, threw 14.22 meters in the shot put at North Texas earlier this month. She broke the previous record of 14.19 meters, which she set herself last season.

Drapeau leads the Bronchos in the long jump after winning the title at OU last week. The senior has hit 5.77, 5.65, 5.95, and 5.96 this season.

Central Oklahoma has six NCAA qualifying standards this season. Vallerie reached it in the 200 with a 24.14 second mark. She also has hit the mark in the 400 (55.89) and was part of the 4x400 relay team that hit the mark (3:47.91) last month in Texas. Drapeau also has an NCAA qualifying standard in the long jump (5.96m) and Lyday in the shot put (14.22m).

Central Oklahoma concludes its regular season with this week's trip to Shawnee. The 2024 MIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships are scheduled for May 3-5 in Maryville, Mo. The 2024 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships are scheduled for May 24-26 in Emporia, Kan.
