Kelsey Drapeau Wins Long Jump At OU Meet

Central Oklahoma Senior Takes Top Honors In Norman As Bronchos Begin John Jacobs Invitational

NORMAN, Okla. – Kelsey Drapeau's first-place finish in the long jump Friday night at OU's John Jacobs Invitational led the way for the Bronchos this weekend as UCO competed in the two-day event south of the OKC Metro.
 
Drapeau reached 5.96 meters on her first jump of the day and that mark stood the test of the field for first place. The personal record is a national qualifying standard is the 17th-best mark in Division II this season and the fourth best in the MIAA.
 
Mattison Thetford also had a big day Friday. On her birthday, the sophomore from Moore, cleared 3.65 meters in the pole vault to set a new personal record. Thetford made three attempts at tying the UCO school record 3.80 meters but did not clear her tries.
 
Genevieve Young also competed for the Bronchos as they started the two-day meet in Norman. Young raced to season-best 2:20.49 in the 800m, finishing 22nd.  
 
Lauren Wilson threw a PR 40.76 meters for a 17th place finish in the hammer throw, and Abigail Kelly hit 11.45m for a 21st place finish in the shot put.
 
On Saturday, only Wilson and Lyday competed in field events. Wilson finished 11th in the discus and Lyday 16th. Wilson threw 43.43 meters, a top 50 mark in Division II, and Lyday threw 39.89 meters.
 
Several sprinters were in action on Saturday for the Bronchos.
 
In the 100m, Sai Brookins-Fleming finished 11th (11.93 seconds), Mikayla Stephenson finished 50th (12.94) and Karly Clemons 58th (13.25).
 
Deriayah Lee finished seventh in the 100-meter hurdles Saturday, posting a 14.93-second time. Lee also ran the 400-hurdles and finished 11th with a time of 1:03.17, a new PR for the freshman. Lee has been within a second of the UCO record in both events multiple times this season.
 
In the 200m, Central Oklahoma had six contestants finishing from as high as 16th all the way to 74th. Brookins-Fleming led the group with a 24.96 time to finish 16th. Kerrigan Huynh finished 42nd (26.35), Stephenson finished 46th (26.56), Drapeau finished 50th (26.69), Reta Ojene finished 58th (27.17), and Clemons finished 74th (29.94).
 
Huynh, Young, and Ojene all came back for the 400. Huynh led the way with a 31st-place finish (59.78 seconds). Young finished 36th (1:00.31) and Ojene 46th (1:02.08).
 
Noel Buckhaults also competed in the 1,500 this weekend and finished 42nd with a time of 5:58.64.
