Emma Shelley Leads Bronchos In Edmond

Senior Veteran Posts Low Round Tuesday In Leading Central Oklahoma To A Third-Place Team Finish

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma shaved one stroke off its team score and maintained its third-place position as the Southern Nazarene Diffee Ford-Lincoln Invite wrapped up Tuesday at KickingBird Golf Club.
 
The Bronchos posted a final team score of 607, carding a 303 Tuesday after a 304 on Monday's opening round.
 
Southwestern Oklahoma State won the team title with a 592 and Oklahoma Christian was second with a 599. Northeastern State (617) and Oklahoma Baptist (625) rounded out the top five teams.
 
Emma Shelley led Central Oklahoma on Tuesday. She started on No. 2 and sank a birdie putt right out of the gate. After six straight par putts, Shelley bogeyed No. 9 to return to even par of the day. Shelley also sank birdie putts on Nos. 12 & 15 to get to 2-under, but then doubled the Par-3 16th and was back at even par again. Shelley bogeyed No. 18 and then finished the round with a par on No. 1 to card a 1-over-par 71 for the day.
 
Shelley's 148 (77-71) earned her a fifth-place finish.
 
Estela Castillo also finished in the top 10, tying for ninth place in the individual race with a 36-hole score of 151 (76-75). Castillo had one birdie with three bogeys on the front nine and another birdie with four bogeys on the back nine to finish Tuesday's round 5-over 75.
 
Jirasuda Khunarak nearly made it three in the top 10, with the senior finishing 11th on Tuesday. Khunarak played the front nine 7-over but sank eight par putts on the back nine to finish the day 9-over. She posted a 152 (73-79) for the tourney.
 
Scarlet Sturch was Central's fourth counting score and the freshman finished 21st in the event. Sturch followed Monday's 8-over 78 with a 9-over 79 for a 36-hole 157. Mika Ramos also was in the lineup and posted an 82 Monday and 78 Tuesday for a 36-hole 160 and a 32nd-place finish.
 
Central Oklahoma is back on the course next week and begins Sunday with the three-day, 54-hole Emerald Coast Collegiate in Destin, Florida. The Bronchos are also scheduled to compete in the Kyle Blaser Invitational in Oklahoma City later this month, and the Arkansas Tech Invite at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield, Missouri.
