UCO 10th After First Round In Florida

Central Oklahoma Led By Freshman Duo At Baytowne Golf Club

MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla. – Central Oklahoma is tied for 10th after the first round of the Emerald Coast Collegiate at Baytowne Golf Club Sunday.

The Bronchos posted a first-round score of 311 at the 5,881-yard Par-71 course. Flagler College leads the 17-team field after posting a 290 Sunday. Central Missouri (297), St. Mary's (302), UT Permian Basin (303), and Wayne State Michigan (305) round out the top five.

Estela Castillo led the Bronchos and is in the Top 20 individually after shooting a 4-over-par 75 on Sunday. The freshman from Spain, who started on the 10th hole, was 4-over after nine. She played the front nine even par. Castillo sank one birdie putt Sunday on the par-5 fifth, and she made 12 par putts.

Scarlet Sturch is 30th in the individual standings after shooting a 6-over 77 Sunday. Sturch also played the back nine 4-over-par and was 2-over on the front nine. The freshman from Durant sank birdie putts on No. 5 like Castillo, and again to finish her round on the par-5 ninth hole.

Jirasuda Khunarak is 36th individually. The senior from Thailand posted a 7-over-par 78 on Sunday, and like Castillo and Sturch, played the back nine 4-over-par. Khunarak sank her only birdie of the day on the par-4 second.

Emma Shelley, a senior from Bartlesville, was UCO's fourth counting score with a 10-over-par 81. She is 58th in the individual standings. Shelley made 10 par putts on the day. Mika Ramos shot a 13-over-par 84 and is 81st in the field.

Second round play is scheduled for Monday morning with the 54-hole tournament wrapping up Tuesday. The Bronchos tee off Monday from 8 a.m. to 8:36 a.m.
