Central Finishes 11th In Spring Return

Bronchos Host Southern Invite In Spring, Texas As Season Resumes For Spring Semester

SPRING, Texas – Central Oklahoma moved up the leaderboard Tuesday before finishing the Southern Invite 11th out of 15 teams.

UCO fired a 54-hole 924 (311-306-307) in the tournament, hosted by the Bronchos at Cypresswood Golf Club just north of Houston.

Dallas Baptist won the team title with an 15-under-par 849. The top three individuals in the field were all DBU Patriots. Henderson State finished second with a 13-over-par 877. West Texas (886), Midwestern State (897), and Rogers State (907) rounded out the top five.

"We didn't start good and that hurt us," UCO head women's golf coach Michael Bond said. "We made some changes for the better as the tournament went on, but we were already in a tight spot.

"It's good to get the spring season started though," Bond continued. "It's good to get another tournament in and for us to realize what we need to work on as we try to get better this semester."

Mika Ramos, a senior from Tulsa, charged up the leaderboard after posting a 9-over-par 81 on Monday. She followed with a 1-over 73 Monday afternoon, then a 2-over-par 74 Tuesday. She got all the way back to 24th place on the individual leaderboard. Ramos sank 14 par putts on Tuesday in addition to one birdie.

Estela Castillo, a freshman from Spain, tied for 50th individually this week. After rounds of 75 and 78 on Monday, Castillo shot an 8-over-par 80 on Tuesday. Castillo sank two birdie putts and seven par putts in the final round.

Jirasuda Khunarak finished with a 54-hole score of 235 Tuesday afternoon. The senior from Thailand shot rounds of 78 and 76 on Monday, then followed with an 81, 9-over, on Tuesday. Khunarak made nine pars and nine bogeys in the round.

MaKaylee Cowan and Emma Shelley tied for 64th in the individual standings. Cowan, a freshman from Yukon, shot rounds of 77 and 83 on Monday before firing a second 5-over-par 77 on Tuesday. Shelley, a senior from Bartlesville, improved each round. She posted a 10-over 82 and 7-over 79 on Monday, then followed with a 4-over 76 on Tuesday.

Drew Faires also competed this week for the Bronchos as an individual. She finished tied for 61st in the tournament with a 54-hole score of 236. Faires had rounds of 75 and 79 on Monday and then 82 on Tuesday.

Central Oklahoma is off next week, but will stay in Edmond the following week for Southern Nazarene's Diffee Ford-Lincoln Invite at KickingBird Golf Club. UCO also has tournaments in Destin, Florida, Oklahoma City, and Springfield, Missouri later this spring.
