Bronchos In Missouri For MIAA Championships

Central Oklahoma Begins Postseason Monday At Mules National

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Central Oklahoma begins the postseason with the MIAA Women's Golf Championships this week at Mules National Golf Course.
 
First round action begins Monday morning. The 13 MIAA teams will one round each day through Wednesday's third and final round.
 
In nine tournaments this season, UCO has been in the Top 10 each time, with six top-five finishes. The Bronchos finished second in Edmond at Southern Nazarene's Diffee Ford-Lincoln Invite as well as at Shangri-La in Central Missouri's Spring Regional Invite. The team has a 301.4 scoring average through 23 rounds of golf this season.
 
Grace Hall leads the way with a 74.6 scoring average. The freshman from Austin, Texas has five rounds of par or better, two in the 60s, and a season-low of 67 last month in Destin, Florida. Her third-place finish at the Regional Preview in St. Joseph, Missouri last fall is her season best.
 
Layne Ailshie, a sophomore from Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, has a 75.8 scoring average heading into the postseason. She has two rounds of par or better this season, including one in the 60s. Her 3-under-par 69 earlier this month at Shangri-La is a career best. Her runner-up finish in that tournament is also a career best.
 
Estela Castillo's 76.5 scoring average is the third best on the team. The junior from Palma, Spain has three rounds of par or better on the season. Castillo posted two of those in the UCO's Southern Invite in Houston in February when she finished a career-best runner up. She has three top 10 finishes this season.
 
Scarlet Sturch enters the postseason with an even 77.0 scoring average. The junior from Durant, Oklahoma finished a career-best third place at the Grace Shin Invitational at the Golf Club of Edmond in the fall. Sturch's 1-under 70 in that tournament is a career low.
 
MaKaylee Cowan is Central's fifth in the lineup and the junior from Yukon, Oklahoma enters the postseason with a 77.3 scoring average. Cowan has finished in the top 20 twice this season with a best of 14th in Edmond this fall. Her 1-over 72 in the second round of that tournament is a season low.
 
Central Oklahoma also has Reagan Plank available as a sub this week in Warrensburg. The freshman from Owasso, Oklahoma played in three tournaments this season as an individual. She finished 18th in Edmond in October and shot a season-low 1-under-par 70. Her scoring average is 77.7 after seven rounds of golf.
 
UCO will move on from conference to regionals in St. Joseph May 4-6. The Bronchos are ranked fifth in the region and the top 18 teams will compete in the 54-hole postseason tournament. The Central Region will send five qualifiers to nationals May 12-16 in Palm Beach, Florida.
