Central Oklahoma Opens Regional Preview Monday

Bronchos Tied For 17th In 24-Team Field

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma is in a tie for 17th place after one trip around KickingBird Golf Club Monday at the Grace Shin Invitational/Central Region Preview.
 
UCO, which was awarded the regional championship for 2025, is hosting the preview this week with 23 teams joining the Bronchos in Edmond.
 
Central Oklahoma posted a 28-over-par 308 in Round 1 and is tied with Sioux Falls. Central Missouri leads the team standings after shooting a 6-over 286. Harding (288), Northwest Missouri (290), Nebraska Kearney (291), and Missouri Southern (293) round out the top five.
 
The average score for individuals Monday was 76.9.
 
Scarlet Sturch led the Bronchos in the first round, with the sophomore from Durant, Oklahoma shooting a 4-over-par 74. Sturch birdied No. 8 and was 3-over at the turn. She added birdies on Nos. 12 & 15 and played the back nine 1-over-par to settle on the 74.
 
Freshman Layne Ailshie, from Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, had a great front nine Monday. She was 2-under after two holes and played the front 1-under-par. She struggled on the back nine though and finished with a 7-over 77.
 
Jirasuda Khunarak was 8-over on Monday, but most of that came from a triple bogey on No. 17. Khunarak was 3-over on the front nine and sank six consecutive par putts on the back nine before No. 17.
 
Estela Castillo rounded out the counting scores for the Bronchos on Monday. The sophomore from Spain shot a 9-over-par 79. She sank nine par putts and had nine bogeys too.
 
Josey Cavitt made her collegiate debut for the Bronchos on Monday. The freshman from Turner, Oklahoma was 4-over at the turn and had birdies on Nos. 10 & 12 on the back nine, but finished the back side 6-over and finished her debut with a 10-over-par 80.
 
The second and final round of the tournament begins Tuesday morning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
