UCO Opens Fall Racing Saturday In OKC

Bronchos Take On Six Races At Annual Head of the Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY – Central Oklahoma begins the fall portion of its schedule Saturday with the annual Head of the Oklahoma on the Oklahoma River downtown.

The Bronchos, which finished third at the NCAA Division II National Championships last spring, will race three times in the fall as preparation for the 2025 season.

Led by interim head coach Jimmy Francis, UCO begins this weekend with six races – three 4+ and three 8+ races.

"Our team has shown incredible commitment and resilience throughout the beginning of the fall season," Francis said. "Every athlete has pushed themselves to new levels of performance, both on and off the water. The amount of dedication, whether in training sessions, team practices, or individual workouts, has been truly impressive. This is a team that supports one another. Whether it's pushing through a tough workout or fine-tuning technical details, they've built a culture of accountability and trust. I couldn't be prouder of the work they've put in and I'm excited to watch them race."

Racing gets started at 8:50 a.m. for UCO, with a Novice/Freshman 4+ and that marks the only race of the AM for the Bronchos. Central will have two boats in the 1:45 p.m. Varsity 4+ race, and another Novice/Freshman boat in the 2:15 8+ race.

The day wraps up for Central at 3:10 p.m. when two boats will compete in the Varsity 8+ race.

Central Oklahoma's three fall races include this weekend's Head of the Oklahoma. The Bronchos will race at the Tulsa Invite Oct. 26 on the Verdigris River and the Wichita Frostbite Nov. 3 on the Arkansas River.
