Bronchos Finish Sixth At Midwest Classic

Central Oklahoma Wraps Up Fall Schedule With Northwest Missouri Tournament

MARYVILLE, Mo. – Central Oklahoma wrapped up the fall portion of its 2024-25 schedule this week with a sixth-place finish at Northwest Missouri's Midwest Classic Monday and Tuesday at Mozingo Lake Golf Course.
 
The Bronchos posted a 36-hole score of 653 (329-324). Central Missouri won the team event with a 624 (298-326) while host Northwest Missouri was second with a 635 (319-316). Nebraska Kearney (644), Arkansas Fort Smith (645), and Washburn (651) rounded out the top five teams in front of UCO.
 
Estela Castillo led Central Oklahoma with a seventh-place finish on the individual leaderboard. The sophomore from Spain shot a 13-over-par 157. After an 8-over 80 on Monday, Castillo charged up the leaderboard with a 5-over 77 on Tuesday, when she made seven par putts and three birdies.
 
Jirasuda Khunarak finished 12th in the tournament, just three shots back of Castillo. The senior from Thailand finished with a 16-over-par 160. On Monday, Khunarak posted a 9-over-par 81 and she followed that with a 7-over 79 on Tuesday. Khunarak sank 17 par putts on 36 holes of golf this week.
 
Scarlet Sturch was one shot back of Khunarak and finished 16th with a 17-over-par 161. The sophomore from Durant, Oklahoma shot an 8-over 80 on Monday and answered back with a 9-over 81 on Tuesday. That included an eagle on the Par 5 No. 3, and a birdie on the Par 5 sixth hole.
 
Josey Cavitt, playing in her second career tournament, finished at 31-over par. She posted rounds of 88-87 this week. Layne Ailshie, also a freshman finished at 32-over par with back-to-back rounds of 88.
 
Central Oklahoma will now break for the winter. The Bronchos return in February and will host the Southern Invite in Spring, Texas, just north of Houston. UCO has five spring tournaments on the schedule before the MIAA Women's Golf Championships in April.
