Central Oklahoma's Top Doubles Team Will Play In The ITA Regional Semifinals Sunday

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma's top doubles team of Pete Komada and Blythe Buntrock advanced to the ITA Central Regional Championships semifinals Sunday after two wins Saturday at Edmond Center Court.

The Broncho duo will take on Isabella Martensson and Renske Ubachs from Washburn in the semifinals at noon Sunday. Romane Britt and Karli Roux of Harding will also take on Maja Jung and Lara Schmid of Washburn in the other semifinal. The championship match is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, with the winner earning an automatic qualifier to the ITA Cup next month in Georgia.
 
After winning their opener on Friday, Komada and Buntrock faced Henderson State's Jenna Bohnert and Angela Georgieva in the Round of 16. The duo was no match for the Bronchos as Komada and Buntrock blistered the opposition, 8-0. UCO faced Gabriel Jancikova and Simon-Maria Karaouza, from Augustana, in the quarterfinals and won 8-4 there to stay alive for Sunday.
 
Komada also lost 6-1, 5-7 (10-7) in her A Flight singles contest.
 
Anika Ouwejan lost her ITA Regional debut on Friday, but bounced back with a 4-0, 5-4 (7-0) win on the consolation side. She also won 4-2, 4-1 in to advance in the bracket. She lost her consolation quarterfinals match 4-0, 5-4 (8-6).
 
In the Singles B Draw, Karyna Yurchenko kept a good weekend going. After a 6-0, 6-1 win on Friday, the sophomore from Ukraine won twice on Saturday. She picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win over Washburn's Amber Young, and then beat Washburn's Maddie Shelley 6-0, 6-3 to reach the semifinals Sunday morning. She'll face Madison Stafford, from Harding, with the winner advancing to the championship match Sunday afternoon.
 
Ayaka Koga also lost her first match of the day Saturday after a win in her debut Friday. She lost 6-3, 6-3 to Arkansas Tech's Sofia Beggiatto.
 
Manon Hallemans, who dropped her debut on Friday, also lost her second match, 4-1, 4-1, to Smilte Bakyte of Augustana.
 
In B Doubles, Yurchenko and Koga won their first match, 8-5 over Shelly Davilus and Olivia Gaston from Ouachita Baptist. They lost 9-8 (8-6) in the quarterfinals to Vanessa Nitu and Chaira Matteodo from Southeastern Oklahoma State.
