UCO Crushes Newman In MIAA Opener

Bronchos Win 7-0 To Start League Play 1-0

WICHITA, Kan. – Central Oklahoma opened MIAA play with a 7-0 trouncing of Newman Tuesday afternoon.

UCO improved to 9-2 on the season and increased its win streak to four matches.

The Bronchos earned the doubles point with a 6-0 win at the No. 1 position and a 6-1 win at No. 2, while taking a forfeit victory at the third position in the lineup. Another forfeit at the No. 6 singles position put UCO up 2-0 in a hurry.

Hui Soo won first in singles play at the No. 5 spot, 6-1, 6-0 and Anika Ouwejan won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 to give the Bronchos a 4-0 lead and the match. Karyna Yurchenko followed with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles before Pete Komada won 7-5, 6-3 at No. 2 singles and Mei Hasegawa won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1 singles to finish off the 7-0 victory for the Bronchos.

Yurchenko and Soo took the forfeit for a doubles win, Ayaka Koga and Ouwejan teamed up for the win at No. 2 doubles and Hasegawa and Komada earned the win at the No. 1 position.

Central Oklahoma is off to a 1-0 start in the MIAA. The Bronchos will return home for a pair of league matches this weekend. UCO hosts Emporia State and No. 10 Washburn Friday and Saturday in Edmond.
