Mei Hasegawa Named MIAA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week

Central Oklahoma Sophomore Led Bronchos To Pair of MIAA Wins

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Central Oklahoma sophomore Mei Hasegawa was named MIAA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week sponsored by Classic Court, the league announced Wednesday.
 
A newcomer at Central, Hasegawa went 4-0 this past weekend to lead the Bronchos to a pair of wins, including an upset of the No. 12 team in the country.
 
Friday in Edmond, UCO beat Emporia State 6-1. Hasegawa won her doubles match, 6-3, then won her singles contest, 6-1, 6-4. Saturday afternoon, she won another doubles match 6-3, then against No. 12 Washburn, in a matchup of nationally ranked individuals, No. 30 Hasegawa won 6-4, 6-2 over WU's No. 15-ranked Renske Ubachs.
 
Hasegawa moved up to No. 17 in the county in this week's rankings (Ubachs dropped to No. 25). With teammate Pete Komada, the duo makes up the No. 16 doubles team in the country in this week's ITA rankings.
 
UCO moved into the national rankings at No. 37. Komada is also ranked No. 52 in the ITA Singles Top 75. The Bronchos are off this weekend and travel to Northwest Missouri and Missouri Western next weekend for MIAA matchups.
