UCO Hosts Emporia, Washburn

Bronchos Welcome Two MIAA Schools To Edmond This Weekend

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma hosts a pair of MIAA foes this weekend when the Bronchos welcome Emporia State and Washburn for league matchups.

UCO is 9-2 on the season and 1-0 in the MIAA. The Bronchos will play Emporia State (6-5, 0-0) Friday morning at Edmond Racquet Club with first serve scheduled for 9 a.m. UCO hosts 12th-ranked Washburn (9-2, 0-0) Saturday afternoon at Broncho Courts on campus with first serve scheduled for 1 p.m.

"These are going to be two tough matches for us," UCO head women's tennis coach Joe Vann said. "Emporia is solid and Washburn is one of the better teams in the country so we're going to have to be ready to play at every spot in the lineup."

The Bronchos have won four in a row and their only two losses this season are against ranked opponents (UT Tyler and Angelo State). UCO has a 23-8 doubles record through 11 matches and is 46-14 in singles competition.

Mei Hasegawa and Pete Komada team up for the No. 1 doubles team and the duo is ranked 18th in the country in the latest ITA Doubles Top 50. Hasegawa and Komada are 8-2 on the season. Anika Ouwejan and Ayaka Koga make up Central's No. 2 doubles team and they are 9-1 on the season. UCO has used multiple pairings for the No. 3 spot with Karyna Yurchenko and Hui Soo going 4-2 to lead the way.

The latest ITA Singles Top 75 has Hasegawa ranked 30th and Komada ranked 56th in the country. Hasegawa is 8-1 on the season and Komada is a team-best 10-1, going 9-1 at No. 2 singles and 1-0 at the top spot in the lineup.

Ouwejan is 7-2 playing at the No. 3 position. Yurchenko (7-0), Soo (6-3), and Koga (4-3) give UCO depth in singles play. Dilay Ata (2-4), Haley Hibbets (1-0) and Milana Quick (1-0) have also made appearances in the lineup this season.

Central Oklahoma owns a 13-2 advantage in the series against Emporia State since joining the MIAA in 2012-13 and the Bronchos have won each of the last 10 meetings against the Hornets. UCO is 13-5 against Washburn in that time and looks to snap a three-game losing streak against the Ichabods this weekend.

The Bronchos have eight matches left in the 2026 season beginning with this weekend's contests. UCO will travel to Northwest Missouri and Missouri Western in two weeks before hosting Northeastern State and Arkansas Fort Smith for the final two home matches. Central wraps up the season on the road at Fort Hays State and Nebraska Kearney.

The 2026 MIAA Women's Tennis Championship is scheduled for May 1-3 in Springfield, Missouri.
