Bronchos Wrap Up DBU Classic

DENTON, Texas – Central Oklahoma wrapped up the 2023-24 season opener Tuesday with the third and final round of the DBU Women's Classic at Wildhorse Golf Club at Robson Ranch.

The Bronchos finished 15th in the team standings, moving up one position from where they began the day. UCO posted a 54-hole team score of 926 (312-309-305).

"That was a tough way to start the season but now we know what we're up against," UCO head women's golf coach Michael Bond said. "We did improve each day, so that's a good sign, but we need to start better and limit our mistakes moving forward. It was a good first tournament and we're already looking forward to the next one."

Findlay, which claimed the 2022 NCAA Division II national championships, beat host Dallas Baptist, the 2021 & 2023 NCAA champs, on a playoff to claim the team title. The stacked national field saw those two squads finish 54 holes 1-under par.

Mika Ramos led the Bronchos throughout the week. The senior from Tulsa finished the tournament 11-over-par, shooting 227 (74-75-78). She sank six birdie-putts on the week, including one on Tuesday, and finished 50th in the individual standings.

Scarlet Sturch, who made her NCAA debut this week, finished her first collegiate tournament 14-over par. The Durant, Oklahoma native shot a 230 (76-78-76). She sank seven birdies on the week, including a pair on Tuesday, and finished 56th in the individual standings.

Emma Shelley, a fifth-year senior from Bartlesville, finished tied for 64th individually. She shot a 19-over-par 235 (82-78-75), improving with each trip around Robson Ranch. Jirasuda Khunarak, a senior from Thailand, shot a 21-over-par 237 (80-78-79) and finished 72nd individually. Estela Castillo also played her first career event. The Palmo, Spain native shot a 23-over-par 239 (84-79-76) and finished 78th individually.

Central Oklahoma is back on the tee box next week. The Bronchos are playing the Regional Preview at Hillcrest Country Club in Bartlesville. UCO has three tournaments scheduled for October, including the Grace Shin Invitational Oct. 2-3 at The Golf Club of Edmond.
