Central Visits Newman Thursday

WICHITA, Kan. – Central Oklahoma hits the road again this week to take on Newman Thursday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The match between MIAA foes will not be a conference contest. UCO plays Newman, Northeastern State and Rogers State in non-conference matches before beginning the official 11-game MIAA slate next weekend.

Central Oklahoma heads to Wichita with a 1-1-2 record on the season. After two draws to open the year, the Bronchos split last week's game with a win over Southwestern Oklahoma State and a loss against Oklahoma Baptist.

UCO is averaging 2.25 goals per game through four contests. Elena Conaway's two goals leads the team. There are seven other players with one goal – Lauren Piper, Emma Nicholas, Albany Adair, Matilda Torres, Jaci Decker, Izzy Van Zanten and Amaya Grace. The Bronchos have four assists on the year – Conaway, Nicholas, Piper, and Callen Snider.

Defensively, UCO has conceded seven goals in four games, 1.75 per game. Caroline Faulkner has played the last three games in goal and has nine saves in 270 minutes with a 1.33 goals against average.

Newman is 1-3-0 on the year. The Jets have scored three goals in four games and have allowed 13, an average of 3.25 goals per game. Teams are taking 17.8 shots per game against NU, putting nearly half of those shots on goal. Maylani Birckbichler has two of the team's three goals. Alexandra Dan has the other.

Central Oklahoma will return home following Thursday night's contest and is scheduled to host Northeastern State Sunday at 1 p.m. The Bronchos will hit the road again next week to take on Rogers State in the final non-conference match before visiting NSU in Tahlequah for the first MIAA game of the year.
