Pete Komada Named ITA Central Region Rookie of the Year

TEMPE, Ariz. – University of Central Oklahoma freshman Pete Komada was named Central Region Rookie of the Year by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, it was announced last week.

Komada, from Nagoya, Japan, was a key figure in leading Central Oklahoma to the NCAA Division II national tournament.
 
Komada posted an 11-10 overall record this season, playing 11 matches at No. 1 singles in her debut season. She played 10 more matches at No. 2 singles. At the top spot, Komada went 3-8, while she posted an 8-2 record in the second position in the lineup. Komada also went 15-6 in doubles competition, including an 11-4 mark at the No. 3 position.
 
Komada was ranked No. 29 in the ITA Top 75 Singles rankings of the country's best players. She came in at No. 10 in the Central Region rankings.
 
Central Oklahoma posted a 10-11 overall record in 2023, earning the No. 5 seed in the MIAA Tennis Championship and the same spot in the NCAA Division II Central Region Championship.
 
This marks the fifth consecutive season a member of the UCO women's tennis team has won ITA Central Region Rookie of the Year. Laetitia Charbonnet (2018), Isabella Dunlap (2019), Mae  Canete (2021) and Christine  Canete (2022) also earned the honor.
