UCO Ready For WIRA Championships

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – No. 1 Central Oklahoma is back on the water this weekend as the Bronchos take on the field in the annual Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) Championships.
 
UCO will have its Varsity 8+ and Varsity 4+ boats on the water, as well as some pairs and 'B' boats in the big weekend of competition on Lake Natoma.
 
"We are excited to get another round of in-region racing done, this time against Humboldt and Seattle Pacific," first-year head rowing coach Jen Gilbert said. "It is fantastic to see three West teams ranked in the top three nationally, yet again showing the strength of the West. This weekend is sure to be some tight racing and tough competition."
 
Sydney Large will direct the V8+ for the Bronchos this weekend. The eights are scheduled to race in the second heat at 8:50 a.m. (PST) against Seattle Pacific, UC Irvine, Lewis & Clark, Pacific Lutheran, and Pacific University.
 
Kenna Chamlee, Lauren Clark, Keyna Swoosh, Raphaela Sanchez, Samantha Hutchings, Faith Brooks, Victoria Petschnig, and Peyton Meiler will make up the eights. The top three placers in heat racing will advance to Sunday's Grand Final with the next three to the Petite Final.
 
Emily Overholt is set to lead the Varsity 4+ this weekend, with the Bronchos taking to the water Saturday at 10:50 a.m. (PST). UCO is scheduled for Heat 1 against UC Irvine, UC Davis, Pacific U and Sonoma State. The Bronchos also have a V4+ B boat, led by Large, racing in Heat 3 at 11:10 a.m.
 
Overholt will be joined by Danielle Holle, Sinead Quirke, Audra Hempfling, and Allie Schein. Large will be joined by Swoosh, Brooks, Chamlee, and Meiler.
 
The Grand Final and Petite Final are scheduled for Sunday morning.
 
Central Oklahoma is also putting a Double (2x) and a Par (2-) on the water this weekend, and additionally a Varsity 4+ Novice crew. The double (Holle and Anya Landrowski) will race Saturday at 12:40 p.m. and the pair (Quirke and Hempfling) will race Sunday at 11:50 a.m.
 
Macie Cohlmia is leading the V4+ Novice boat and will be joined by Hutchings, Sanchez, Petschnig and Clark. They are set to take the water Saturday at 1:40 p.m. against Pacific U, UC Santa Barbara, UC Irvine, SPU, Santa Clara, and Saint Mary's B. The novice Petite Final is scheduled for Saturday at 4:30 p.m. and the Grant Final will take palce on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
 
UCO wraps up the regular season this weekend. The Bronchos are scheduled to compete in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championships May 13 in Oregon with the hope of earning another bid to the NCAA Division II Women's Rowing Championships May 26-27 in New Jersey.
