Bronchos Take On SC Relays In Kansas

WINFIELD, Kan. – Central Oklahoma is sending a small contingent to Southwestern College for the final regular season track meet of the spring.

Central Oklahoma is competing in the Mike Kirkland SC Relays Saturday. Field events begin at 10 a.m. and UCO will join in on a handful, including the discus, shot put and pole vault. Central will also compete in two distance events Saturday afternoon.

Gracie Tytenicz is competing in the discus and shot put. The freshman thrower from Luther, Oklahoma is looking to improve on her early career marks of 35.52 meters (discus) and 9.78 meters (shot put).

Luz Lugo-Ponce, Talyn Been, Mattison Thetford and Jolie Oliver are all competing in the pole vault this weekend. Thetford, a freshman from Moore, Oklahoma, has the best performance of the season for the Bronchos with her 3.55-meter vault last week in Emporia, Kansas.

Been, a freshman from Dewar, Oklahoma, also hit a season-high last week at Emporia with a 3.20-meter vault. Lugo-Ponce, competing in her 36th meet at Central, has a 2.90-meter season high that, like her teammates, came last week at Emporia. Oliver's season-high 2.75 meters came at Wichita State earlier this month.

Buckhaults competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase last weekend and posted a 12:59.87 time. She'll enter that event at 4 p.m. Saturday. Kylee Smith is running the 1,500 at 4 p.m. and looking to improve her time of 6:20.48 last weekend.

Central Oklahoma is wrapping up the regular season this weekend. The Bronchos are preparing for the 2023 MIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships May 5-7 in Jefferson City, Mo.
