UCO Heading Back To NCAA Regionals

INDIANAPOLIS – Central Oklahoma is heading back to the NCAA Regional Championships next month, the association announced Friday.

The Bronchos will head to Winona, Minnesota May 11-13 for the Central/Midwest Regional as one of 20 teams selected to the field. UCO is making its second consecutive appearance at the regional championships under second-year head men's golf coach Derrick Thompson.

"We got better as the year progressed and that's always a good sign," Thompson said. "We're excited to be able to play one more tournament and we're hoping it's our best one yet. These guys got a taste of it last year and I know they're ready to get back in a couple of weeks and go for it."

UCO finished in the Top 10 in 10 of 11 tournaments this season and in the Top 5 in six of those. The Bronchos won their own tourney in March in Edmond.

Central is led by All-MIAA golfers Caleb Kimmel and Bennett Baldwin, who average a 73.9 and 74.0 respectively. Evan Griffith (74.2) and Ross Taylor (74.7) are also averaging near par per round this season.
