UCO Tees Off In MIAA Championship Monday

Central Oklahoma Begins The Three-Day, 54-Hole Tournament Monday In Missouri

JOPLIN, Mo. – Central Oklahoma begins the postseason Monday when the Bronchos tee off in the first round of the 2023 MIAA Women's Golf Championships at Eagle Creek Golf Club.

Eagle Creek is a par 72 playing 5,800 yards this week. The 11 teams in the MIAA will play 18 holes each day Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

UCO has eight Top 10 finishes this season, including three in the Top 5, and including at Eagle Creek two weeks ago in the final event of the regular season. The Bronchos are averaging 312 per round this season after 10 regular season tournaments and 25 rounds of golf.
 
"This course is very challenging and it made everybody work for every stroke two weeks ago," UCO head women's golf coach Michael Bond said. "It'll be a tough challenge again so we'll see how it goes. We just need to be focused and patient."
 
Central Oklahoma's five-person lineup includes Jirasuda Khunarak, who led the Bronchos this season in her first year with the program. The junior from Thailand has a 77.3 stroke average this season.
 
UCO veteran Mika Ramos, who was named Second Team All-MIAA on Sunday before the championship, has a 77.6 average this season. Ramos has a low round of 71 and two par or better rounds this season.
 
Emma Shelley comes into the postseason with a 79.0 scoring average and a low round of 74 on the year. Madison O'Dell is at 79.5 with a low round of 73. Arin Zachary rounds out the UCO lineup and is averaging 82.5 per round this season with a low of 75.

Ramos was named Second Team All-MIAA by the league on Sunday, earning the honor for the first time in her three-year career with the Bronchos. Khunarak was also named Honorable Mention All-MIAA.
 
Central Oklahoma has won four MIAA titles since joining the league in 2012. The Bronchos won three in a row from 2013-15 and won their most recent championship in 2021.
