Bronchos Visits Hays, Kearney

HAYS, Kan. – No. 28 Central Oklahoma opens a two-match road trip Saturday when the Bronchos take on Fort Hays State in an MIAA dual. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.

UCO is also scheduled to take on No. 44 Nebraska Kearney Sunday at 10 a.m. to wrap up the quick trip north.

"We're looking forward to some good matches," UCO head tennis coach Joe Vann said. "It will be tough and a good test for us. We're capable of winning and that would help us a lot, but we have to be focused if we want to get that done."

Central Oklahoma is 6-6 overall this season and 1-1 in the MIAA. The Bronchos dropped their conference opener at Northeastern State, but rebounded with a win over Missouri Western last weekend in Edmond.

Fort Hays State is 6-8 overall on the year and has an 0-4 record in the MIAA. Nebraska Kearney is 11-8 and 2-2 in league competition.

UCO is led by its highly ranked doubles team. Nikki Boyar and Blythe Buntrock have a 10-2 overall record this Spring. The duo is ranked No. 3 in the country in the latest ITA Top 50. Boyar and Buntrock won nine in a row following a season-opening loss against Division I North Texas and looks to start a new streak after winning against MWSU last weekend.

Pete Komada and Nefeli Zafeiri are 9-3 in doubles play this season. The duo is 8-3 at the No. 3 position in the lineup and 1-0 playing at the No. 2 position.

Tizia Brocks and Karyna Yurchenko have a 4-6 doubles record.

Komada, who is 4-8 overall in Singles play this Spring, is 3-8 at the No. 1 position in the lineup. She is ranked No. 50 in the latest ITA Singles Top 75.

Boyar, Yurchenko, and Zafeiri are all 6-5 in Singles play. Brocks and Buntrock are both 5-6.

UCO has a 23-11 overall Doubles record and is 32-35 in Singles matches this Spring.

Central Oklahoma is scheduled to return home next weekend for a pair of MIAA matches and both are against ranked opponents. UCO hosts No. 19 Washburn next Friday and No. 27 Northwest Missouri next Saturday.

Sunday's match against No. 44 Nebraska Kearney marks the first of four consecutive contests against ranked opponents. The Bronchos will play Washburn and Northwest Missouri before facing off against No. 15 Cameron in a non-conference dual in two weeks.
