Central Oklahoma Hosts Fort Hays State

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma continues an MIAA homestand this weekend with a three-game series against Fort Hays State. First pitch Friday is scheduled for 5 p.m. The teams will also play Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. at Wendell Simmons Field.
 
UCO is 16-6 overall this season and 6-4 in the MIAA. The Bronchos are 12-2 at home. Fort Hays State comes to Edmond with a 9-15 overall record and a 2-8 mark in league play.
 
OFFENSE BY THE NUMBERS
 
Central Oklahoma's offense has a team batting average of .300, with 7.5 runs per game coming from 9.6 hits per game. The Bronchos have 72 extra-base hits out of 212 hits this season – a 33 percent rate. UCO also is active on the bases, stealing 69 bases in 22 games, an average of 3.1 per game.
 
UP AND DOWN THE LINEUP
 
Seven Bronchos have played in at least 19 games through six weeks of the 2023 season and each has helped on offense in one way or another.
 
Jaden Parsons and Aiden Proctor both have a .365 batting average to lead the team. Kaleb Glass and Austin Lambert are both one-thousandth of a point back at .364.
 
UCO also has six players with at least 21 hits this season, with Parson's 27 a team high. Orlando Gonzalez has 25, Glass has 24, and Noah Olson, Cameron Uselton, and Seth Gray all have 21 hits. Olson has a team-high eight doubles and Gray leads the Bronchos in both triples (three) and home runs (five).
 
In UCO's aggressive baserunning efforts, Proctor leads the way at 19-for-21 stealing bases. Glass is 10-for-10 this season.
 
PITCHING POINTS
 
The UCO pitching staff welcomes Fort Hays to Edmond with a 4.10 team earned run average. The Broncho starting rotation of James Wambold, Chris Spry, and Marcos Lopez is 5-2 in 14 starts. The trio has a 5.12 ERA. UCO's bullpen has a 3.58 ERA and has been solid in the middle and backend of games all season.
 
UCO defensively gives up 4.6 runs per game on 7.7 hits per game through 22 games this season.
 
TIGER SCOUT
 
Fort Hays State is 9-15 overall this season but the Tigers have six players hitting .300 or above. The team has a .317 batting average and puts up 7.9 runs per game. The Tigers have an 8.21 team earned run average and give up 8.5 runs per game.
 
UP NEXT
 
Central's four-game homestand ends with Fort Hays State on Sunday afternoon. The Bronchos will then pick up and head out on a five-game road trip. A stop in at Oklahoma Baptist next Tuesday is followed by a three-game MIAA series at Newman next weekend, and a midweek conference game at Northeastern after that.
