OKLAHOMA CITY – Central Oklahoma lost a pair of races to Creighton Saturday morning as the Bronchos' early season continues with home duals against higher division opponents.
UCO lost the Varsity 8+ race by a couple of boats, but only lost the Varsity 4+ by less than a half a second.
"I am very happy with how today's round of racing went for the girls," first-year head UCO rowing coach Jen Gilbert said. "We move into camp next week where it will benefit us having additional rows together before taking on Kansas March 18."
Central Oklahoma's eights fought through a 20 miles per hour cross headwind in the first race of the day, finishing the 2,000-meter trek in 7:55.9.
The fours came up next and fought to a near win over the visiting Bluejays. Central Oklahoma posted a time of 8:44.56, just 0.53 seconds behind Creighton.
UCO will make it three race days in three weeks next weekend. The Bronchos are hosting Kansas, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma State, Wichita State, Texas Christian, and Texas (Club) on the Oklahoma River for two rounds of racing Saturday, March 18. Central Oklahoma is also hosting an alumni fanfare before and after the racing.
