UCO Hosts Creighton

OKLAHOMA CITY – Central Oklahoma will be back on the water for the second time in as many weeks Saturday when the Bronchos welcome Creighton for a pair of races on the Oklahoma River.

"UCO and Creighton have a long tradition of racing together in the Spring so we are excited to be back for another weekend with them," first-year head UCO rowing coach Jen Gilbert said. "It is back-back weekends of racing for us, before we head into Spring camp next week which will culminate in a double header round of racing for the Broncho women on March 18. It is a big few weekends of Spring racing for the team, but it is exactly what we wanted for this part of the season as we continue to learn and develop key areas of our performance."

Central Oklahoma and Creighton will race in the Varsity 8+ and Varsity 4+ boats beginning at 9 a.m.

"The Varsity 8 will be without Danielle Holle, who is away with military service this weekend, but everyone else rowed the Varsity 8 at our season opener," Gilbert said. "In the Open 4, Allie Schein returns as stroke, and Anya Landrowski moves from the three to the two-seat this week, as the boat welcomes back both Audra Hempfling and Hope Brooks. Both Hempfling and Brooks are sure to add speed to the boat. We've had a solid week of training, always learning – and camp next week is sure to help us fine tune some areas before we start traveling."

Emily Overholt will lead the fours with Schein, Landrowski, Hempfling and Brooks.

Sydney Large will lead the eights with Sinead Quirke, Keyna Swoosh, Peyton Meiler, Samantha Hutchings, Raphaela Sanchez, Kenna Chamlee, and Victoria Petschnig making up the lineup.

Creighton competed in three regattas and one dual in the Fall. Saturday will mark the first date of competition for the Bluejays of the Spring semester.

UCO will make it three race days in three weeks next weekend. The Bronchos are hosting Kansas, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma State, Wichita State, Texas Christian, and Texas (Club) on the Oklahoma River for two rounds of racing Saturday, March 18. Central Oklahoma is also hosting an alumni fanfare before and after the racing.
