Bronchos Bounce OC

EDMOND – A big rally in the second inning proved to be enough as No. 13 Central Oklahoma kept the Oklahoma Christian Eagles of OKC at bay in a 7-5 victory Tuesday evening at Wendell Simmons Field.

Central Oklahoma improved to 12-2 on the season with the win. The Bronchos return to conference play this weekend with a trip to Claremore, Oklahoma to take on Rogers State. The three-game MIAA series is scheduled to begin on Friday.

"We found a way tonight," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "It wasn't pretty, but we got a win and that's all that matters."

Central Oklahoma took a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning.

Seth Gray drew a leadoff walk and Noah Olson followed with a single to center field. Orlando Gonzalez's single to left center followed and scored Gray. Shae Morrison drew a walk to load the bases, then Matt Baughn did too and scored Olson to make it 2-0.

Landen Wood broke it open with a double to center field to score Gonzalez and Morrison. Kaleb Glass and Jaden Parsons then hit back-to-back sacrifice flies to give UCO a 6-0 lead.

Gonzalez was back at it in the third. He led off with a single to left, and moved to third when Morrison doubled to center. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch with Gonzalez touching home plate for the second time in the game to give UCO the 7-0 lead.

But UCO's offense stalled after that. Gonzalez got another single in the fifth and that was the last hit of the game for the Bronchos. Fortunately, UCO's pitching came through.

Diego Dominguez got the start for the Bronchos and gave up four runs in 4 1/3 innings pitched. Bradan Pierce came out of the bullpen and stalled OC's rally.

Jeb Jenkins followed Pierce and gave up one more to make it 7-5. Then Jacob Bailey closed out the game to get the win for the Bronchos.
