Central Oklahoma Vies For Tulsa Cup

UCO Will Play The Club At Forest Ridge For A 36-Hole Tournament Monday And Tuesday

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. – Central Oklahoma is set for its fall finale this week as the Bronchos take on the field in the Tulsa Cup, hosted by Rogers State at The Club at Forest Ridge.

UCO will play 36 holes, 18 Monday and 18 Tuesday, at the 6,005-yard Par 72 course. A shotgun start is scheduled for 8:15 a.m. Monday.

"We're hoping to play our best tournament to go into the break with some confidence and momentum," UCO head women's golf coach Michael Bond said. "We've shown improvement in our first four tournaments and we need more this week. It's a good field, a good course, and we're looking forward to it."

Jirasuda Khunarak, Mika Ramos, Emma Shelly, Estela Castillo, and Drew Faires make up the five-person lineup for Central Oklahoma this week. The Bronchos are one of 19 teams in the field.

Khunarak, Ramos, and Shelly, three seniors in the lineup, give UCO a consistent top half. The trio almost have identical stroke averages heading into the fall finale. Each has played in all four tournaments, nine rounds of golf, and their averages are almost the same to the nearest fraction.

Khunarak leads the bunch with a 76.1 stroke average. Ramos is at 76.2, and Shelly is next at 76.3 strokes per round heading into this weekend.

Khunarak also has three Top 20s this fall with a best finish of sixth place. Ramos has two Top 20s with a best of 14th. And Shelly has two Top 20s, and a 21st-place finish, with a best of ninth this fall.

Castillo, a freshman from Spain, has also played in all four tournaments to start her career this season. She is averaging an even 79.0 through nine rounds of golf. Castillo's best finish is 27th.

Faires is a junior college transfer that has played in half of UCO's fall tournaments. The former Redlands linkster from Oklahoma City is averaging 80.5 strokes per round this season. She shot a 163 (81-82) in Bartlesville and a 159 (77-82) in Edmond earlier this fall.

UCO has finished 15th, sixth, fourth, and fifth so far this season. The Bronchos will pick back up in the Spring with the Southern Invite, a tournament in Spring, Texas hosted by the Bronchos at Cypresswood Golf Club just north of Houston.
