Bronchos Slip On Tough Second Day At MIAAs

Central Oklahoma Drops To Seventh In Team Standings Heading Into Wednesday's Final Round

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Central Oklahoma was one of several teams plagued by higher scores in the second round of the MIAA Women's Golf Championships at Mules National where the Bronchos dipped from third to seventh place.

UCO posted a 47-over-par 327 on Tuesday and sits seventh out of 13 MIAA programs with a 36-hole 635. Washburn surged up the leaderboard to first place at 607 (313-294). Nebraska Kearney is second at 609 (306-303). Rogers State (614), Arkansas Fort Smith (623), and host Central Missouri (628) round out the top five.

MaKaylee Cowan leads UCO through two rounds of play. The junior from Yukon, Oklahoma sits at 13-over after 36 holes, shooting rounds of 76 and 77.

Cowan started her day with a bogey but a birdie on the Par 3 fourth hole got her back to even. She played the front nine 3-over with the birdie countering four bogeys. On the back nine, Cowan made six par putts and had two bogeys and double to finish 7-over 77 on the day.

Grace Hall is 17-over. The freshman from Austin, Texas posted a 6-over 76 on Monday followed by an 11-over 81 on Tuesday. Estela Castillo (80-82 – 162), Scarlet Sturch (78-87 – 165), and Layne Ailshie (78-89 – 167) are also competing for the Bronchos. Sturch and Ailshie turned in season highs on the rough second day Tuesday.

Central Oklahoma will be back on the course for the third and final round Wednesday morning. Following the MIAA Championships, UCO will begin preparing for the NCAA Central Region Championships at St. Joseph Country Club in St. Joseph, Missouri May 4-6.
