No. 7 Central Oklahoma Hosts Newman

Bronchos Put 4-0 Record Against 0-4 Jets

EDMOND – No. 7 Central Oklahoma returns to its home pitch Friday night for a non-conference clash with fellow MIAA squad Newman. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Central Oklahoma is 4-0 this season and the Bronchos, which were receiving votes just outside of the United Soccer Coaches' Preseason Top 25, are now ranked No. 7 in the country in the organization's first regular season rankings.

UCO has used a strong defensive effort to start the season with four straight wins. The Bronchos have posted a shutout twice already this year, once in each week of play. UCO has also only given up three goals in four games overall, with two of those coming on penalty kicks.

Offensively, Central Oklahoma has eight goals in four games. UCO scored a season-high four goals in a win over East Central in between to 1-0 victories against No. 19 Minnesota State and Oklahoma Baptist. The Bronchos opened the season with a 2-1 win at Oklahoma Christian.

Madison Linavong has been a key figure for this year's Broncho lineup. The sophomore from Texas has one goal this season and she leads the country in assists with five. She tied a UCO record with three in one game. Her lone goal was the game-winner at OBU.

Amaya Grace and Emily Tincher both have scored two goals on the season to lead Central. Grace and Linavong have a team-high nine shots in four games while Grace's five shots on goal leads the team.

Kylee Wickersham, who has one goal this season, has been a key figure on the defensive side of the field for the Bronchos. She played a key role in both shutouts and leads the team in minutes played through four games.

Wickersham has played 355 out of a possible 360 this season. Kassidy Collins, also a big reason UCO's defense has two shutous, has played in 342 minutes on the back line.

Avery Bass started each of the first three games for the Bronchos. She earned MIAA Goalkeeper of the Week after her first week on the job. Bass has 12 saves in 270 minutes in goal, with a 3-0-0 record and one shutout. She's faced 27 shots and only conceded three goals.

Caroline Faulkner started and played the full 90 in the UCO's 1-0 win at OBU. She made four saves in the shutout victory.

Newman comes to Edmond with an 0-4 record two weeks into the 2022 season. The Jets of Wichita, Kansas were blanked 5-0 in the first game of the season and have a 5-15 scoring deficit through four games.

Central Oklahoma is going to go back on the road following Friday night's matchup against Newman. UCO will visit Northeastern State Sunday in another non-con against its MIAA rival. The Bronchos will host Rogers State and Northeastern State next weekend, with the latter the first MIAA contest of the season.
