UCO Makes Home Debut Thursday

Bronchos Host East Central In Non-Conference Clash In Edmond

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma soccer team is scheduled to make its 2022 home debut Thursday, with a 7 p.m. kickoff against East Central at Tom Thompson Field.

Central Oklahoma is 2-0 after one week of play this Fall. The Bronchos beat Oklahoma Christian, 2-1, and No. 19 Minnesota State, 1-0, last week. East Central is 0-1-1 on the season after a week of play. The Tigers of Ada, Oklahoma tied Southwest Minnesota State, 2-2, and lost to Winona State, 4-2.

"We're looking forward to playing in front of our home crowd," UCO head soccer coach Mike Cook said. "We had a good first week and our focus is continuing that and building off that. We need to stay focused on that."

Central Oklahoma opens the gates to its home pitch looking to start 3-0 after two wins away from home last week. The Bronchos are averaging 12 shots per game after one week of play and have put 11 of 24 shots on goal.

UCO has scored three goals in two games, with Emily Tincher and Monika McGee finding the back of the net last Thursday at Oklahoma Christian. Amaya Grace scored UCO's lone goal in the victory over No. 19 Minnesota State in Joplin, Missouri.

Madison Linavong got an assist for Tincher and Grace's goals. McGee scored on a penalty kick.

Defensively, Central Oklahoma has been stout to start the season. The Bronchos only conceded a goal on a penalty against OC. The team has allowed 20 shots, with 12 coming on goal.

Freshman Avery Bass has played all 180 minutes in goal for the Bronchos to start the year. She made four saves at OC and six against MSU. Bass was named MIAA Goalkeeper of the Week for her performance in the first two games.

East Central comes to Edmond with an 0-1-1 record after tying Southwest Minnesota State and falling short against Winona State. The Tigers played SWMSU to a draw last week in the first game with no overtime this season. The NCAA eliminated overtime in regular season competition for soccer this season.

ECU is averaging two goals per game. The Tigers have scored four goals and from four different players. East Central has conceded six goals in two games, facing 25 total shots and 19 shots on goal.

Central Oklahoma will go back on the road following Thursday's contest with East Central. The Bronchos visit Oklahoma Baptist Saturday at 7 p.m. in Shawnee, Oklahoma. That match will be the 500th official match in UCO soccer history.
