KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The University of Central Oklahoma soccer team is receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Top 25, announced Tuesday.

Central Oklahoma, which begins the 2022 season Aug. 25 at Oklahoma Christian, was listed ninth among a dozen schools receiving votes just outside of the Top 25. The Bronchos posted a 13-5-3 record in 2021 and qualified for the NCAA Division II national tournament for the 14th time in school history.

The 2022 Bronchos, led by 25th-year head coach Mike Cook, have a .713 all-time win percentage, and will play the school's 500th match this September.

"Preseason rankings are largely based on last year's results, and this is a different team this year," Cook said. "We report next week for preseason training and have some scrimmages lined up that will give us a good indication of where we stand. Then it's about coming together and seeing what we can accomplish this season."

Central Oklahoma returns 17 from last season's national tournament squad. The Bronchos, which finished fourth in the MIAA and reached the league's postseason championship semifinals, have 14 of those 17 returners coming back with starting experience.

UCO opens the 2022 season at Oklahoma Christian in Oklahoma City before taking a trip to Joplin, Missouri for a non-conference clash with Minnesota State. The Mavericks of Mankato, Minnesota appeared at No. 19 in Tuesday's Preseason Top 25.

The Bronchos will make their home debut Sept. 1 against East Central at Tom Thompson Field.
